NETGEAR N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender EX2700 Having issues with weak signal

Hello,

I currently have a Netgear N300 EX2700 WiFi Extender that I am using to extend coverage to my garage apt. where mother-in-law lives.  The extender is plugged into an outlet in garage and has a worked ok until recently.  I usually have a "good" signal strength on her tv but I know it varies throughout the day.  My question is, if I purchase another wifi extender of the same model and put one in her apt in addition to the one in the garage, would that help?   The location of my gateway is is close to center of house but it does have to travel through a few walls and brick to reach her apt. Tonight while she was on Amazon Prime it gave her a "insufficient bandwith" message on the screen. I've restarted gateway several times as well.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Jason

While you can daisy-chain extenders, it's not a great approach.

Is garage part of the house, or free-standing?

There are several apps you can use to check signal strength.  Have you looked at the wifi signal strength of the extender network in her apartment?  If that signal strength is good, then adding an extender in her apartment won't help.

Also, you can use the signal LEDs on the EX2700 (green/amber/red) to give you some idea on whether the issue is the link to the router, or the client link (to her devices).

      Hey StephenB,

Thanks for the info! It is a free standing garage. The signal from the router is good and all lights are green. She told me that it started working fine today so I’m not sure what the problem was. Can you send me the name of a couple of apps I can use to check the signal strength in her apt?

      Thanks for your help!

    1. Try repositioning the extender closer to your mother-in-law's apartment to enhance signal strength.
    2. Consider adding another Wi-Fi extender of the same model in her apartment to extend coverage.
    3. Ensure that both the extender and your gateway have the latest firmware updates for optimal performance For More PdaNet+.
  • Thank you for the information! The garage is not attached to the main building. The router's signal is strong, and all indicators show a good connection. Interestingly, it seems the issue resolved itself today, so I'm uncertain about the cause. Could you please recommend a couple of dezor I can use to check the signal strength in her apartment? Appreciate your assistance! Jason

Ensure that the WiFi extender in the garage is placed in an optimal location where it can get a good signal from the main router and effectively extend coverage to your mother-in-law's apartment. Try adjusting its position to find the best signal. See more here - Frozen City.
