Problem setting WNR2000v2 as a gateway (no router no DHCP)

We have a Bell modem, a lynksys RV042 and a Netgear WNR2000v2.

Modem <-> RV042 <-> WNR2000v2

The RV042 is our main router 192.168.2.30
We want to use the WNR2000v2 as a wifi gateway only, and we need all IPs and rules to be managed by the RV042.

I would like to understand the EXACT procedure for this to work. Because when I try to set the LAN to 192.168.2.10 on the WNR2000v2 it states with it conflicts with the WAN subnet. But there is nowhere to set the WAN subnet.

And although I have succeeded in the past, it was unstable, the WNR2000v2 was sometimes grabbing traffic (IE blocked: ICMP_echo_req) and stuff like that.

Today, I just moved the router to another location, bam the LAN IP reset to 192.168.1.1. What a drag.

So again, can anyone help me with the EXACT stps to make this router a slave at 192.168.2.10

thanks!

  • My question to you would be this - what do you define as "wifi gateway"? I have a rule - one network, one router - break it at your own risk. It's not that you can't have multiple routers in a single network, but, if you're going to do it, then you need to have a clear idea of what you're attempting, and that's where your problem is coming in. You appear to be trying to extend the RV042's wired network wirelessly, and the device you need is a wireless access point, not a wireless router, and not a wireless gateway (whatever that is). Here's what you need to do ... 1) Configure the WNR2000 so it's LAN address is 192.168.2.10 and disable the DHCP server 2) Connect the WNR2000 to the RV042 - LAN port to LAN port - do NOT use the WAN port on the WNR2000, leave it disconnected.
