Receiving ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT when using extender
We are at our wits end....
We have a CAX80 (Firmware 2.1.5.2) and have no issues with it and it does great. We recently moved and our wifi speed dropped from ~200mbps at the router to ~55mbps in the home office. We purchased the EAX80 (Firmware 1.0.1.70) in order to extend the wifi speed to the back of the house...and all hell broke loose.
I work from home (MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 running Sonoma 14.6.1) and use a chrome extension and as soon as we plugged in the extender I immediately got the ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT; not only on the extension but also to regular websites (Random mix). We went through every fix we could find and finally just hardwired the extender into my work laptop and that seemed to fix the error but the internet speed was still everywhere...and then suddenly the error came back (being hard wired in). We have changed the MTU settings and changed channels thinking there was interference causing the error...nothing worked.
We checked the router settings and realized our downstream power was very high (12.3 with router and 15 with extender). We had the cable company come out and they put an attenuator on and brought us down to 2.3 on the router. Per the Netgear diagnostics and our cable company, our internet is primo and plugged directly into the router we get 400mbps.
Except we still have the ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT on the extension. We have not received it on the websites so it seems in some part the power levels were causing issues (and our internet is now stable). We tried plugging in the laptop to the extender again and still got errors...but hella fast internet (200+ mbps)! Oddly enough when we switched to wifi with the extender, the extension works fine but the internet speed dropped to 75mbps.
I have emailed customer support for the extension (Vendoo.co) and they said it was me...not them. I can't imagine I am the only person out there with a Netgear extender using this extension.
Appreciate any inputs.

Only happens with the EAX80 enabled and connected at the EAX80?

Yes, only when the extender is in use. We have tried connected via ethernet and via wifi and nothing works.

You might update the CAX80. I'd factory reset both CAX80 and EAX80 and setup from scratch afterwards. Then check that site with different browsers. Try a different PC to compare results. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Cable-Modems-Gateways/New-CAX80-Firmware-Version-5-1-1-8-Released/td-p/2396719/jump-to/first-unread-message
