Using Same SSID as Router
Hi,
I know the help within the MyWifiExt application says not to use the same SSID, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of the range extender? Is there an issue if I use the same SSID that the router is using? So, if I'm going from the first level of my house (where the router is) to the 2nd (where the WN2500RP is located) or 3rd level, any of our laptops or iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch's will stay on the same network. This is important for the "i" devices for wireless syncing to my Mac where they have to be on the same network.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks.

- Exactly. I use the same SSID for router and extender networks for just this reason.

Just to clarify are you saying I can use the exact same SSID on both the Wireless Router and the Range Extender? Don't they have to be on a different channel at least? - jmizoguchiVirtuosoyes....................
SSID name is not channel - FrantzAspirantDear all
I also want to use the same SSID for my WN2500RP as for my wireless router. I understand from the previous answers that that should be no problem. What I do not understand is how to change the channel for my 2,4GHz band on the WN2500RP. I think it sets itself automatically to the same channel as the router (which only has the 2,4GHz band) and I can't adjust the setting since it's grayed out.
I have tested: If I change the channel on the router, the channel on
WN2500RP is also changed after reconnection.
The reason: I think I need to use the same SSID on both the repeater and router but different channels to get a connected device to be able to switch between the router or repeater, using the one which delivers the best connection for the moment.
Best Regards Frantz
