WN 2000rpt problematic with drop signal and buggy firmware update

Hello,

I have a Netgear wn2000rpt extender with the original firmware that drops the connection to the wireless router. This is what I have done so far:

Set the RPT MAC and IP address as a static address on the Wifi router. FAIL- same issue

Reset to factory

  • Use WPS button to automatically set up router and the RPT used the same SSID and WPA2 security as the router. .FAIL- same issue

Reset to factory

  • Manually connect to the setup interface and used the wizard to configure the RPT and it uses the same SSID and WPA2 as the router. .FAIL- same issue

After looking up the issues on google i tried to reconnect to the RPT using the web address www.mywifiext.net

  • Fist on windows 7 with IE .FAIL webpage connection error
  • Next with Chrome .FAIL webpage connection error
  • Next on windows 10.FAIL webpage connection error on both IE and chrome

Next I used an old IPAD and could connect to the RPT GUI and found out that it had the original firmware.

Next I download the .24 firmware and tried to upload it but the RPT GUI could not find the file. FAIL

Next the instructions said I might have to unzip the file (really for firmware?) so I attempted to unpack it using winzip

  • Result was a readme file and and img file (that winzip saw as a zip file but could not unpack) Attempted to load the img flie with the same result as the prior FAIL

Next contacted netgear support but they wanted a fee to update the RPT Firmware. FAIL- might as well put the money to a new extender but with this experience I am forced to carefully shop for a better product.

So unless someone has specific instruction on how to work around all the bugs on the Netgear wn2000rpt I guess I'll use this as a door stop for now.

Case: WN2000RPT dropps connection and can't update firmware, no knowlege base

      Hi Derrin M.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I have found an easier work around.

      Problem:

1.RPT dropped the wifi connection to the router

      2. Couldn't load the RPT GUI on new windows 10 notebook as newer version of IE could not load the RPT's HTML (for what ever reason it through and error)

      3. Old Samsung S2 smartphone could connect to the RPT GUI but couldnt load the firmware file

Solution: Used an old Vista OS laptop with an old IE version. This was able to load up the RPT's HTM GUI.

Copied the unzipped firmware to the Vista laptop and updated the RPT firmware to .24.

Time will tell if this firmware version fixes the dropped connectivity issue.

Very disappointed with the quality of this products firmware.

        Hi,

I want to upgrade the firmware in my WN2000RPT but don't know which firmware to download.

The Extender is marked "NETGEAR Universal WiFi Range Extender WN2000RPT" with no v1, v2 or v3.

        The serial number is: 2AB1135G015E9.

How do I find out which version I have or is it a pre-v1 version ?

Can I see it in the software in any way?

        Thank's for advise.

        /Percy
