WN2000rpt v2 Set Up Instructions

Ok so the quick recommended set up (Option 1) is to turn on the repeater, wait a minute, get the green light, press WPS. Then within 2 minutes press WPS on your router. Voila!

Pressing the WPS buttons is supposed to cause the repeater to mimmick the security of the router (which is also Netgear btw) but when I try to connect it says that it is unable to join (which is the same message you receive when you put in the wrong key/password).

Let's try option 2 (factory reset the repeater)...

So option 2 requires you to first connect to the repeater??? what???? If I could do that I would have quit after option 1. What kind of instructions are these??????

Please help before I break something (else).:mad::mad:

  • I have the WN2000RPTv2 here at home myself. When you have done a factory reset on it (by pushing and holding the "Restore Factory Settings" hole on the back, for let's say 20 seconds) and the middle LED is green, you should be able to find "NETGEAR_EXT" as a wireless network on your computer. Connect to that and then try to reach any webpage and you should be directed directly to an installation guide of the extender. Give that a go.

If that doesn't work, I suggest you have a talk with Netgear support as the forums are user-to-user only. No need to break anything. :)
  • Thanks Wizard. The issue was the factory reset. Once I did that correctly I was able to get it going as it was supposed to. So the support guy said to hold the button for 30 seconds and then unplug the unit for 30 seconds as well. Worked great!
  • Try the link below on how to setup extender if you encounter any problem the next time. http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21361[/url]
  • I have the same router extender. I can connect to the router extender and bring up the netgear genie. Problem 1 it does not see my network name, so I used the manual method. By the way my wifi network is up and running withe three computers. I then followed the instructions. When I got to the last step I finalized the proccess and it said to connect my device I did . The it jumped right back to the first step. I tried to ping it failed and it would not connect to the network.

If someone could help please as I need to install this for access from outside.

    Thanks inadvance
  • Make sure you are behind the extender physically and install in the extender
