WN2000RPTv2 connection issues
I'm having trouble reaching the internet through a WN2000RPTv2. It has the latest firmware (1.1.0.12) and my Win7x64 laptop shows internet connectivity and Home Group access, but I cannot reach any webpages, including mywifiext.net or .com. (I get an instant redirect to http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wifiextdevice.asp with a 404 error on that web page).
I am able to communicate with the extender at 192.168.1.250, but if I try to check for firmware updates from the extender I get a "No Internet Connection" message.
Can anyone give me some suggestions?

I can get the extender to work but 3 weeks of trying to get it secure has failed. The netgear genie shows up (only one time and it too has gone by the wayside) but I can get about halfway through the setup and it freezes and then quits. I'm on an iMac but have also tried using windoze.
I'm trying 1 more day and then I'm switching to another brand. 3 weeks of trying has taken it's toll.
Try to reset your extender first. Then connect your computer directly to your extender using a cable instead of connecting to the default wireless SSID of the extender. Follow the steps to setup the extender again.
To the topic starter, you should try placing your extender on the same room where your router is for isolation. You may have to do the same thing that I have mentioned above to setup the extender. Please check if your computers really gets the Internet connection when they are connected to the wireless network of the router. - optodataAspirantI had a better connection when the extender was closer to the router, but if it's in the same room then the extender won't reach to the back of the house. I can try moving it closer and see if that gives me internet access through the extender, then try moving it to a point where it has better reach while still giving me internet access.
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoTime to use power line device to extend and ola e access point
- optodataAspirantThat's a really interesting idea! Could I use a WNXR2000 at the DSL modem end and then use something like an XAVB101 to connect the existing extender at the other end of the house? Maybe I should use 2 WNXR2000's to have two powerline-connected wifi networks...
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoYes but you would setup 2nd wnr2000 as an access point

I had the same problems as you after changing my router from a Frontier-provided router to a Belkin router. Before, I had excellent connection between the router and the WN2000RPT and excellent connection to Internet through the range extender. After changing to the Belkin router, I had a very poor Internet connection through the WN2000RPT (less than 1 Mbps vs. 25 Mbps). And opening the WN2000RPT webpage through my PC connected to the router took about 90 seconds to fully load.
I fixed the problem by changing the authentication setting on the Belkin router to WPA2-PSK only, instead of WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK. The encryption was AES in both cases. As I recall, the WPA authentication is intended for slower networks, so I'm guessing that using WPA and WPA2 together slows the network down. Although I didn't have the connection speed problems with other wireless clients when using WPA+WPA2, changing to WPA2 only fixed the connection problem with the WN2000RPT.
You said in a previous post that you are using WPA2-AES, but you should make sure that your router is set to WPA2 only, not a mix of WPA and WPA2.
By the way, my range extender is the WN2000RPTv1, not v2, but I don't think that this should make any difference. - donboyAspirantIm using a WNDR3400 with two WN2000RPTv2 ,,, first i only used one extender then i bought a second one and when i connected both they both worked off the WNDR3400 very good as i have the router hard wired downstairs to my desktop, and then use both extenders up stairs for wireless,, now both extenders want me to sign on to Genie?? i have some dead spots in my house so thats why i am using two extenders..
- MistaboneAspirantI too have a WNDR3400 and one WN2000RPTv2--My problem is I am having to reset (unplug and plug) one of these two units at least once a day--sometimes 2 and 3 times a day. I start out resetting the RPT and sometimes just doing that works however if it does not..I have to reset the modem (Motorola SB6121) and the router which always makes everything work---I do have a couple of computers hardwired to the internet and they always work even when the wireless will not. I contacted Netgear about this and they told me they are having troubles with the repeater and I should take it back to (Best Buy in this case) and exchange it for another one. I did register my units so Netgear does have my serial numbers but my question becomes--if I do an exchange for the same model type--won't I just have the same problems and is there a recommended Netgear repeater that does not have all these known problems--please advise!!

If wired works all the time then reset the cable modem probably are not part of issues at and do not need to reset.
Far has extender goes make sure are NOT using channel that can be interfere with surrounding
http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
check your surrounding and change the channel if you are using "auto" or randomly you choose to the channel. 1,6,11 and 13 for europe is the choice of channels.
make sure extender is not at same location where you had less signal. Extender should be located between A- B point (A - 3400 and B - remote where coverage needs). - MistaboneAspirant1. Wired does work all the time--if Net Genie shows items connected to the RPT (the EXT) but still unable to connect to the internet (and the items showing connecting wirelessly to the router do connect to the internet)--the fix is to reset the RPT. If items are showing connecting properly to either the RPT or the router but you are still not getting an internet connection and that is non-fixable (most of the time an error message suggesting the cable has come unplugged between the modem and the internet)....then the only fix is to unplug the modem and router and replug them---that works everytime/100% of the time---
2. I am the only person on my channel (channel 3 there are several other folks on channel 1 and channel 6 but no others on mine.
3. It is 75 ft across my house and I have 3 dead spots---the RPT is set up at 37 ft from the router. One of the dead spots is 25 ft from the RPT and the other two dead spots are right at 37.5 feet from the RPT. All three of the dead spots show around 30% signal strength (never much more than that) and will lose the signal independently (meaning independent of one another) every 30 to 60 minutes. When #1 (above) happens--nothing will connect through the RPT to the internet. The RPT signal strength never gets over 50%. The link lite on the RPT stays green (when lit) most of the time but will drift into amber for moments at a time. When the wireless internet is down and the light is not on at all---then you must determine if it is just the repeater that needs rebooted or the whole system.
4. However my real question was...Netgear admits to having a piece of faulty equipment and suggests it be returned for exchange---my question is...what should I exchange it with?? the same model unit known for it's defects or a better unit??
