WN2500RP won’t connect to verizon quantum g1100 router

Attempts to connect using WPA failed (even when extender and router are an inch apart, also tried joining the two devices with cable lan1-to-lan1).

I tried manual setup using netgear genie (I have no network expertise) from my ipad.  Initially I received message that mac address needed to be added to router’s ACL (access control list) see first attached screen shot.

But when I checked the router’s settings, ACL is NOT enabled.

I reset the WN2500RP and tried manual setup again from my ipad.  Every attempt after the first, I encounter this problem:  I see the extender with my network name, but cannot maintain the connection to mywifiext.net long enough to complete the install.  When I get to “you are now one step away from completing the installation”, I cannot check the box “my wireless devices are connected to the Extender network” because my ipad and iphone drop me from the network.  See 2nd & 3rd photos.FIrst manual attempt2nd manual attempt

verizon is no help.  Two techs say they can’t help unless it’s a verizon extender and the 3rd rep insisted that the problem is a verizon outage in our area (despite the fact that I can connect to the network from every device via the g1100 router and my fios phone is working).

the wn2500rp connected fine to the previous verizon router.  But that router was terrible—in a 2200 sq foot house, I needed an extender for the next room.  The g1100 is significantly better, with access issues in only one room where a brick wall that is part of an addition is the problem.

the extender connected to the previous router provided a signal, but it still wasn’t great (buffering, dropped connections) but this router’s performance in that room can at least connect without an extender but I think it would be much better with an extender.

Is there something I need to do that is not obvious to me to make the connection between the wn2500RP and the g1100?  I saw another poster with problems connecting these devices in december 2017, but there were no replies.

is there a way to find out if there is some hardware or software incompatibility between the wn2500rp extender and the verizon g1100? Or a list of extenders that are compatible with the g1100 router? I do not want a verizon extender unless that is the only solution.

thanks in advance.

  • After spending several hours trying to achieve this, I was finally successful.  I am attaching screen shots of the process that worked for me from my ipad, as I have seen this problem in other posts without successful resolution.

    Basically

    1. use the MyFios app on ipad to initiate WPS connection on the verizon quantum G1100 router

    2. Press the WPS button on the WN2500RP netgear extender

    3. As soon as yournetworkname_2GEXT and  yournetworkname_5GEXT appear in your ipad’s available network list, click one to join and enter same password as your router’s network password.

    4. From myfios app, run wi-fi analyzer again to verify that the WN2500RP extender is now connected.

I hope this saves someone from the aggravation I experienced.  It was very simple to manually connect this extender to the previous verizon router and I am not sure why I was unable to do so with the Quantum router.  But I am now getting a strong enough signal from the extender to connect my smart tv to the extender network and get good quality streaming.

      Hi Maxbuys,

Check for firmware upgrade if any and try different channels on router to improve performance.

I AM POSTING THIS HERE FROM ANOTHER POST. IT WORKED WELL FOR ME TOO

You sure can use the netgear extender WN2500RP OR WN3000RP with your verizon router.... just DONT follow netgear's instructions. After messing around for hours with no luck I tried this and it worked. IAM ADDING SOME MORE STEPS TO MAKE IT MORE EASY!

-UNPPLUG NETGEAR EXTENDER FOR 10 SECONDS.

-PLUG IT BACK. USE A PIN OR TOOTHPICK TO PRESS THE RESET BUTTON(RESTORE FACTORY SETTING HOLE). KEEP PRESSING FOR COMPLETE 2 MINUTES-DO NOT MESS THIS UP!!

        - AFTER THE POWER LIGHT TURNS GREEN, UNPLUG IT AGAIN.

        1) turn OFF your laptop's wireless connection.

        2) Connect your laptop VIA AN ETHERNET CABLE to the extender's Ethernet port and plug in the extender'S 1ST ETHERNET PORT(DO NOT PUT IN OTHER PORTS).

        3) PLUG THE EXTENDER BACK - after the extender boots it will show two lights-POWER AND "1"

        4) open your browser and it should take you right to the extender's genie. IF IT DOESN'T. TYPE

        www.mywifiext.net

        5) follow all the prompts using your Verizon router's id and password.

AFTER IT RUNS THE PASSWORD AT THE END IT WILL SAY ITS NOT CONNECTED TO THE NETWORK. JUST CLICK SKIP AND IT WILL RUN ANOTHER TEST AND AT THE END IT WILL GIVE THE NETWORK INFO.

THE TQO EXT NETWORKS WITH YOUR NETWORK NAME SHOULD SHOW IN ANY OF YOUR OTHER WIFI DEVICES.. JUST CONNECT ONE OF THEM TO THE EXT NETWORK.

ONCE IT IS CONNECTED, CLICK CHECK MARK IN THE WIRELESS CONNECTION IS DONE LINE AND HIT CONTINUE. IT WILL PROMPT THAT INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE.

        6) disconnect the Ethernet connection and turn the laptop's wireless back on

YOU AR GOOD TO GO. :-)

        Good luck
