D6220 router firmware 1.0.0.72 Broken

As there is no way to contact Netgear support I thought I'd post here in the hope netgear technical support will see this.

I recently upgraded the firmware on my Netgear D6220 router to the latest release 1.0.0.72. In the two days after the firmware upgrade my router completely locked up (Wi-fi stopped and Ethernet ports stopped) a total of four times. A power reboot of the router resolved it temporarily but the problem returned after several hours. I went back to the previous firmware 1.0.0.68 and it's been stable again for a week. It seems to me the latest firmware 1.0.0.72 is broken.

  • after the update, did you ever try a factory reset and reinstall?

Sometimes firmware changes enough a factory reset can help after an upgrade.

Thats usually where we recommend people start

Thanks for the reply, No I didn't do a factory reset. However I've had the router some time and upgraded to the latest firmware several times over the last couple of years without doing a factory reset and experienced no issues until this 1.0.0.72 firmware. I will try it over the weekend and see how it goes.

Hi. I reinstalled the lastest 1.0.0.72 firmware, did a factory reset and reinstall and the router has locked up completely twice in two days - with the latest firmware only being used for two days on latest attempt. There is definitely something wrong with 1.0.0.72 as the previous 1.0.0.68 was rock solid for a week between trying 1.0.0.72 twice.

could simply be something unstable in it for your device then.

sounds like the downgrade is the option for you.
