I am not even getting one third of the speed
I have a NETGEAR C3000-100NAS on Comcast 400Mpbs deal. But when I test internet speed on my android phone sitting next to the modem, it reads 40mpbs
I used to have 100Mpbs deal and yesterday I upgraded to 400Mbs. I called Comcast they said on their end they are seeing 400Mbs working and they claimed they updated the firmware but still no difference
The machine specifications indicate I supposed to get max 340Mpbs
I plugged off the power and the signal cable and plugged them back in but no difference
Can someone help?

2.4ghz is a slow network. it won't even hit the 100mbps that you had.
The 40mbps is more along the lines of how fast 2.4ghz is.
And the c3000 is single band. Meaning there isn't a 5ghz band to connect to (which is a faster wifi).
Plus, its not rated to the speeds you're paying for.
so,
1. tests its speed hardwired. and see what you get
2. upgrade. its not even rated to the speeds you're paying comcast for and even if its "up to 340mbps", its doubtful that it'll hit those speeds. I believe comcast only provisions it for something like 150-200mbps. (not 100% on that though)

And all those years I have been using, I was wondering how my speed never went above 40Mpbs. :(
Is the information on the box misleading? How will this modem achieve 340Mbps yet alone 100 if it is operating on 2.4 ghz?
Comcast is sending me a free modem so I will sell this and be done with it.

Between network overhead, antenna's used, interference, etc they're very over rated. You can read more about it here: https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html
In terms of the modem, Netgear can rate it based on the max specs the modem will pull down under ideal circumstances. ISP's rate it for what they'll actually push down via its specs/capabilities. So in theory (and for some ISP's) it'll hit the 340mbps over wired. But Comcast doesn't certify it for that.

Just some insights.... According to the C3000 N300 WiFi Cable Modem Router Data Sheet it does
- Cable Internet speeds up to 340 Mbps with 8 downstream & 4 upstream channels
- WiFi N300 2x2 (2.4 GHz)
- 2x Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports
To test the effective possible throughput, you have to use a computer with a Gigabit Ethernet port, connected to one of the Modem-Router combo LAN ports.
The N300 maximum possible link rate of 300 Mb/s is based on a 40 MHz wide channel usage, 2x2, 64-QAM, 5/6 FMI: https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html#wifi4
"Android phone" is not very informative. Most budget phones, as well as many more expensive mobile phones, are typically supporting 1x1 for 2.4 GHz WiFi and 20 MHz bandwidh only. This translates to some 72.2 Mb/s link rate, leaving some 40 Mb/s in real world testing makes perfect sense.
