Netgear app / R6400v2

My netgear app wil not let me update the latest firmware for my router. Everything else works on the app. I do have an update available. I know I can do it with a computer with an ether cable but hey that app feature should work. Any suggestions?

    Read the bit:

To log in to your NETGEAR router with a web browser

This is best done with a wired LAN connection but wifi also works. The key is to use a web browser rather then an app.

The manual update is safer because there is less risk that the connection will fall over during the firmware download or the update process. If that happens you can end up with broken firmware, which is a pain to repair.

Thank you for your reply. I am aware of the link you sent me. Although the first suggestion is with the app but that doesn’t work for me on the app as I stated in my previous question and the second option is with a Ethernet cord connected to the router. I was asking if the app itself which has an option to update firmware, why it doesn’t work and if there was any fixes to that procedure itself. Thank you again. Maybe uninstall the app and reinstall?

What happens when you try to update with the app?  That it "doesn't work" isn't much of a clue.

Does the app miss the new version?

Does the app find an update and fail to install it?

I ask because the app is not infallible. Like the on-board check, using the a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI), these approaches don't always see updates. Heaven only knows why, it is just a fact of life.

It could be because you are trying to make a huge jump from a version that can be a long way behind the latest. Sometimes it could be because the new version has not made it on to the update server.

That is why the manual update is the next option.

You can do this even if you cannot hard wire into the router.

Your mobile device can do it with its browser and a wifi connection rather than the app. Just aim the browser at routerlogin.net or the IP address of your router, usually 192,168.1.1 for the R6400v2.

The wifi browser isn't the safest router. Wifi can fall over and interrupt the update process, but it usually works.

Thanks for your input and suggestions. Yes the App on my phone “nighthawk “ has its latest version. When I select the firmware update check it gives me a “firmware check error” and also says “There was a problem checking firmware update” You are correct that I am 4 updates behind on my router and may be an issue.
What do you mean by “ . Just aim the browser at routerlogin.net or the IP address of your router”? Do you mean my phone really close to the router? Also with a WIFI connection how would that work if I’m connected to my WIFI? Or could I use the internet connection from my car that I have internet connection?
