Netgear update failure missing file
Trying to install latest update for Netgear Genie Version2.4.52 and it rejects saying missing file. See attachment. Should I totally uninstall and start all over Thanks for your help.
> [...] it rejects saying missing file. See attachment.
Looking at your picture, I thought that those three odd characters
were zeros, but, when I tried it myself, I saw that they were boxes,
possibly: ADVAPIPK<box><box><box>.DLL
> [...] get 4 error messages claiming missing .DLL files.
And the other three were, apparently (merely), ".DLL", so probably
also invalid. The installer appears to be corrupt. Just more typical
Netgear quality control, apparently.

Tried running the installer with "Admin" privileges?
By the way, Alt+PrintScreen would give you smaller images without the background. I was about to embed the picture in the forum, but decided that it would be too big.

Tks for the advice about alt + print for creating screen images....I used to use that alot when I was working...but forgot about it since I retired. Shall give it a try.

Yes after much more research online I choose to take no more action concerning this version update to NetGear .Perhaps it was not a valid update and m/b more of a malicious file and shall just wait out any valid updates to NetGear versions I may receive in the future. I trust that my Bitdefender Total Security 2018 software application and all it's Active Protection Features/settings will take care of me to a far greater extent than what a NetGear Genie update version may offer me....because I feel confident that My ExpressVPN app is the 2nd layer of security for my access to the Net..I read alot of info that is reccomending removing NetGear Genie app for various security reasons but I have reviewed my NG Genie settings & feel secure that it is not a security risk for me.Thank you everyone who reponded to my querie.

Except that it's not "ADVAPIPK.DLL", it's "ADVAPIPK<junk>.DLL", where
<junk> seems to be three unprintable characters. There does seem to be
an "advapi32.dll" in the real world, but that proves little. There's
even less evidence as to what the three ".DLL" instances should have
been.
You have to wonder at the organizational talent in a company which
must still have dozens of paying victims, and can manage to post an
application kit like this with no actual testing of that kit. It's
remarkable.

Experiencing same issue - anyone at Netgear working on a solution?

Yes have tried to install Genie 2.4.52 3 times but same problem missing files.
I have reported to support, but will anything happen?
I doubt it. So just stick with your current version until someone gets out of bed to fix it.

And, speaking of versions, why does this kit have a version-free name
like "NETGEARGenie-install.exe"? Firmware kit file names include
version information; why not application program kit file names?

I have the same issue too. Any fix yet?

I ended up doing a firmware update and then a factory reset on my router. I was then able to reinstall the Genie software. I got the router configured how I want and can finally remove the Genie software entirely. I recommend not using it and sticking with the web admin console.
> I was then able to reinstall the Genie software.
Apparently, the defective kit has been replaced by a less defective
one. Same size, different content:
mba$ ls -l N*.exe
-rw-r--r-- 1 sms wheel 46435944 Jan 28 18:47 NETGEARGenie-install.exe
-rw-r--r--@ 1 sms staff 46435944 Feb 3 21:28 NETGEARGenie-install_2.exe
mba$ diff N*.exe
Binary files NETGEARGenie-install.exe and NETGEARGenie-install_2.exe differ
> I recommend not using it and sticking with the web admin console.
Same here. I gather, however, that some features (Parental Controls)
may require one of the apps.
