Random disconnects with N900 is this common?

So i'm trying to assist someone with this issue and i've seen other post / models with similar issues.  Randomly the entire house internet will drop, the old netgear (i forget model) had logs for 'dos attack' approximatley at the time this would happen, but all the ip's are legit.  Google, MS, ISP's, etc.  Also they'll register a few in a row but not in the thousands or anything.  Eitherway i thought the router was old and those were false so i replaced it with this N900.  But after a day or two same thing starts happening with the new one.  Again legitmate ip addresses, I had one example where the only thing in the house even attempting to run was netflix on an ipad and internet crashed with ISP's traffic.  I spoke with ISP and they don't see any issues from there end, infact the traffic for the entire previous month wasn't more than 60gb (its a mom house).  Firware is up to date.

My question is what are the options?

get isp to replace the modem?

replace the firmware w/  ddwrt of some form?

get something that isn't netgear all together?

what are your thoughts?

TX for the reply, i'm within 90 days of support from netgear so i called.  They checked my settings and indicated it to be an ISP problem.  My logs are stating   'dos attack   syn/ack  xx.xx.xx.xx ip address'  As mentioned those are legit ip's of services i use.  So with some 'enhanced monitoring' enabled by my ISP they noticed dropped connections and have since sent out a tech.  He found something outside the house that thinks could be causing an issue, fixed and now its a wait and see.

If this does resolved for sure i'll repost and i hope this helps anyone else searching out   'netgear router / dos attacks from legit ip's'

    Welcome to the community, @gy1

Will the connection drop if the computer is directly connected to the modem?

It's best to properly isolate as to whether which device is causing the problem.

Some users have reported that getting a new IP from the ISP solves their issue on dos attacks.

Just going to follow up with this, not one issue since ISP fixed connection outside of the house.
