Strange Ping spikes on local LAN with JWNR2000
Router model: Netgear JWNR2000
Firmware version: V1.0.0.7_1.0.6
Tested OS's: windows 10, linux raspbian distro.
Since a couple of days my router has been behaving rather strange, even on wired connections my ping to the router will sometimes wildly fluctuate, from its normal <1ms to 500/600 sometimes even 1000 ms ping. The wifi has the tendency to drop every now and then and disconnect both my phone and laptop. On my desktop with a wired connection its not noticble normally but increadibly hindering while playing games. The router is about 4 years old now and I'm wondering if I should bother looking for a fix or just toss it out and get a new one.
Some furter information on my setup:
A glassfibre connection enters my house into a modem which is hooked up to the router in question, which in turn has a desktop pc hooked up to it as well as a raspberry pi serving as a small file server.
I would again like to state that the ping fluctuation occurs in every port on the router wired or otherwise on both the pi and the desktop. It has never displayed this behaviour before and a factory reset or taking off the power and leaving it for 5 minutes didnt do anything to alleviat the issue.
Just wanted to follow up saying that I managed to resolve the issue by rebooting both the cable modem and the router in sequence leaving the MAC at the PCs. I strongly suspect that the XR500 router was not at fault for the issue but rather that for some reason the ISP/modem capped ipv4 traffic until the reboot.
I am now running with QoS and ipv6 fully enabled without any issues and get equivalent speed tests over both ipv4 and ipv6.

It's possible that it's because it's old.
Try to bypass to further isolate this problem.
If your connection is stable with your modem then definitely it's the router.
You can try to reflash the firmware then hard reset after.
If you get the same result, it's time to get a new one.
No problems with the desktop running directly on the modum. Resetting the router every now and then helps but the problem always returns. I'm too lazy to reflash my router so I guess ill be getting a new one. Thank you for the information.
