WNDR3800 Low download speeds wifi & wired
On Charter 60mbps, testing at half or less speed on computer wired and wifi. It seems to happen after I plug it in, if I reset it will test at full speeds, then later at half or less.
Screenshot of test graph (mix of cat5e & wifi tests) - 60mb straight to router or modem, after a few minutes 20-30 straight to router - 20 and below is wifi.
It's only the download, it will half or lower and lock, seems locked at 20mbps on cat5e now. Upload varies but often times even exceeds 4mbps limit.
It's like it gets slower every time I test... It may be the router (Netgear WNDR 3800). I've tested another computer and it was making 48mbps on wireless. Seems isolated to this pc on wireless or lan at such low speeds.
I do not know anything about the Ethernet card settings but I did put it in 1gbps full duplex, seeing some people say they were forced in half duplex, that didn't make a difference.
Wifi also does this, It hardly ever tests at full 60mbps, sometimes though, then it will also go to half like 30mbps - or slower 10-15mbps.
I did sift through the archives, most of the threads just kind of died with no solutions.
Updated Ethernet card drivers, reset router... Directly connected to modem, 65mbps...
Still looking for solutions... Ordered a 5port 1gb switch... Seems to be the router... 65mbps directly connected to modem. Switch may work, was only 10 bucks on amazin.
Thank you for your timely reply. I learned it was the Netgear Powerline 1200 adapters I had just purchased.
The first speedtest I did with the powerlines came up at 60mbps, then they slowed down varying between 30-20mbps, I thought something had started throttling.
I have returned the products as they were slower than my Wifi, unfortunately. The topic can be closed, I was confused because they slowed down so drastically, but I guess that is normal.
It was confusing, everything is running appropriately now.
Thank you!

Hi TDz86 Will you get the same result on all ports from the router?
If you're getting the same result, possibly that it's a hardware problem already.
By the way, do you have the latest firmware installed on the router?
If you have not updated the firmware yet, please do and after reset do not forget to factory reset the router by pushing the reset button for 10 seconds with a paperclip.
Once done, reconfigure the router manually and observe again your connection.
You can download the firmware here.
