wndr4500v2 dropping comcast connection
i have motorola sb6141 cable modem. when pc is directly connected to the cable modem comcast functions well. when i connect to the internet thru my wndr4500v2 router with ipv6 set to WAN/dhcp LAN//autoconfig, rebooting cable modem router and pc i see wan and lan ipv6 addresses on the genie screen. I am also able to pass the comcast ipv6 test link http://test-ipv6.comcast.net/. after a few minutes of being able to connect to ipv6 sites I experience slow connections (seems i loose ipv6 connectivity and am waiting for a timeout poeiod)
rerunning the comcast ipv6 test link http://test-ipv6.comcast.net/ confirms that ipv6 is timing out.
What needs to be done to fix this?
Hi ElaineM,
I have found a solution to this problem. My firewall (Bitdefender) has a default setting to deny incoming ICMP v6 messages. Setting this to allow made the problem vanish.
What I do not understand is why direct connecting the PC to the cable modem worked OK as Bitdefender was still in the loop. Magic I guess.
I believe allowing ICMP messages poses a security risk which seems to be an IPV6 risk. Do you have a comment on this?
Thanks again :-)

Hi frankc1
Welcome to the community!
Do you have the latest firmware installed on your router?
If you have not upgraded the firmware yet, here's the link.
After the firmware upgrade, kindly factory reset the router by pushing the reset button for 10 seconds with a use of a paperclip.
Once done, reconfigure the router to get the internet connection back and observe your connection.

Hi, Elaine,
Firmware Version is V1.0.0.60_1.0.38
I will try the hard reset later today. BTW can I backup my configuration and restore after the hard reset without re-introducing problems?

Yes, you may backup and restore.
