Access my router from my phone

Hi!  Trying to setup my new Frameo wi-fi digital photo frame but the wi-fi shows status of 'scanning'.  From all my research and head-scratching, I believe it is due to router security setting of WEP vs WPA2.  So I want to change this setting on my Netgear router but cannot access it from my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone (which is connected to and is using the router).  Attempts to sign in to the router from my phone returns 192.168.1.1/unauth.cgi.  I am entering my router password, though I am guessing that the username is admin.  Help!  If I can get in, then I need to figure out how to change to WPA2 and how dangerous that could be.  Thanks!  John.

I successfully changed WEP to WPA2 and also upgraded the router firmware (I'm sure it was very outdated).  I had to remove the router from my frameo wi-fi setup and add it back.  All is fine now; Frameo is working and we have uploaded photos.  Lastly, I am going to investigate if I should change the router mode from 54mbps to 150mbps or 300mbps.  Thanks everyone!

With my weak psychic powers, I know nothing about your "research" or
your analysis of the problem, but WEP is seriously obsolete these days.

"access it" using some web browser or other?

"cannot" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
    descriptions or interpretations.

A bad user name and/or password would explain that result.

Which one?  Did you look closely at the product label?

    > [...] though I am guessing that the username is admin. [...]

"admin" should be the right user name for the router's management web
site.  Did you look closely at the product label?

       WPA2 is safer than WEP.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for "Types of
Logins" and "Basic Wireless Settings".  Further reading might not hurt,
either.  If the default password fails, then look for "Reset".

I'd be more inclined to work out what is going wrong with the "Frameo wi-fi digital photo frame" before messing around with the settings on my ageing (2013 update of a 2009) router.

At least you can rule out one issue. Your router is so old that it does not have 5 GHz wifi, which confuses a lot of IoT toys.

Unfortunately, I can find no previous mentions of frameo in this community, so no help there.

  • Thanks to all for the replies.  Since I did not get a resolution, I will restate my issue:  I need to login to my WNR2000v3 router to change the security setting from WEP to WPA2.  Login attempts by entering my router address into a web browser from either my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone (which is connected to and is using the router) and my HP PC provide the login screen but are unsuccessful with '401 unauthorized, access to this resource is denied, your client has not supplied the correct authentication'.  I am entering 'admin' for username and my router password.  Why is this login not working?  Thanks again,  John.

  • Never mind!  I got logged in.  Just realized I was using my Wi-Fi password, which is different than my router password.  Thanks for all input, and sorry for heading down the wrong path.  John.

That's good. You could have cut to the chase by reading the manual and following the instructions you were given earlier.

You didn't get the answers you wanted because you were asking an impossible question that has no answer.

I step in now only to add another caution.

I need to login to my WNR2000v3 router to change the security setting from WEP to WPA2.

Do not waste time trying to do that now that you have found your way into the router.

Again, reading the manual will explain why you are barking up the wrong tree.

"waste time"?  Because wireless-network security is unimportant?

        > WPA2 is safer than WEP.

A Web search for terms like
              WEP WPA
should find any number of recommendations to avoid WEP these days.  One
        example:

              https://www.lifewire.com/what-are-wep-wpa-and-wpa2-which-is-best-2377353

As always, beware of free advice from over-confident "experts".
