Dynamic QoS Decreasing Speed

I recently increased my speed from 200 mbps to 400 mbps through my ISP. Since then my router will get the full 400 mbps speed through Wi-Fi but none of my devices that are connected to the router via Ethernet will get that speed, they will only get around 250 mbps. The only way I will get the 400 mbps speed is if I press “Apply” in the Dynamic QoS screen on routerlogin.net. All I do Is press apply, I don’t change a thing on that screen but for some reason it increases my speed for about 24 hours and then I have to press “Apply” again. I have a Nighthawk X6 R8000 router. Does any one know how to fix this issue? I’ve been trying to fix this for about 3 weeks now.

  • I'm still not getting full speed when connected via ethernet.  I've tried all the suggestions from this thread and nothing seems to resolve the issue. I reset the router for a 3rd time and it didn't make a difference and I followed the instructions from this thread.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Do you have Armor, Circle or Traffic Meter enabled or ever had those enabled?

I recommend not using any QoS.

      Firmware V1.0.4.84_10.1.84

      Spectrum Modem Model ES2251

      Traffic meter disabled
Never used circle, not sure how to check if it is enabled or disabled.

Not subscribed to Armor and haven’t been for a few years since my trial ran out.

Dynamic QoS is not enabled and never has been.

If you have changed your Internet service, then it can help to reset the router so that it forgets any settings from the old service.

And don't forget to use the correct startup sequence.

    • Turn off and unplug modem.
    • Turn off router and computers.
    • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on computers and rest of network.

I’ve rest the router twice since I’ve upgraded my internet. The first didn’t help. The second time the router worked great for 3 days and then it after day 3 the devices connected via Ethernet started only getting about 250 mbps instead of the 400 mbps.

Always helps to have full details. Anything else you haven't told us about?

        For example, earlier you said:

"Since then my router will get the full 400 mbps speed through Wi-Fi but none of my devices that are connected to the router via Ethernet will get that speed, they will only get around 250 mbps."

That is highly unlikely and doesn't make much sense, given the usual overhead for wifi connections. It raises questions about how you are testing these speeds.

        This is also suspicious:

"The only way I will get the 400 mbps speed is if I press “Apply” in the Dynamic QoS screen on routerlogin.net."

Same question. Where do you see this 400 Mbps? Sounds more like an "on-board" speed test, never a reliable indicator.
