Internet connection Interruption

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed internet connection interruptions.

I'm trying to track down the source of the interruptions.

I started with the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 logs and found out that the logs have a very limited length and do not appear to cover enough time to allow me to look back in time more than 1 hour.

How can I have a longer log?

Is there something else I should be looking at to eliminate the router as the source of the interruptions?

    1. what firmware is on the router?
    2. what modem/gateway is it connected to?
    3. do the interruptions happen to all device? Just wireless devices? Just wired?
    4. How long do they last?
    5. What fixes the interruption?

Whenever I"m troubleshooting, I start at basics. IF the issue happens 1x an hour, I hardwire a pc/laptop to my modem and use it for a bit to see if that's the issue. If its not, then I connect the router back, and start testing. You also have to keep track of how often it happens, how the device was connected (wired, 2.4ghz/5gh), what fixes it, etc. Those details can help us to help you

  • 1. firmware is V1.0.7.10_1.2.3

    2. The NightHawk R7000 is connected to internet connection from fiber optic ONT

    3. Don't know at this point the interruptions have only been noticed 2 times in the past 2 weeks.

Users are in the office 3 days a week.

    4. Guess they are short

    5. reset the computer's NIC.

Been a long time since I seen that old of a firmware. Its about 25 versions behind for the R7000.

    Which fiber don't?

So its only happened 2x? Total?

But you're not sure if it was long or short?

And its fixed with resetting the computers NIC?

When (If) you update, make sure to factory reset and reinstall. that's a lot of firmware version changes and there's probably been quite a few changes.

From this statement can I assume that backing up the setting is of little use?

You can always backup the settings and trying a reset with using the old settings. I generally don't recommend it because with that amount of version changes, it could cause issues. But if you reinstall and it works great, it saves you time if you have a lot of customizations. If you don't, I'd just reinstall from factory without the backup
