My R9000 is on 1.05.42 and won't find an update but I found here 1.06.46. I have downloaded it. Should I install it? Router still works great except for an occasional unexpected reboot. 1x or 2x a week. Thanks!

Wow, good find, had not seen this update.
Up to you to load it. Only seems to address security issues. Would be no new features added or enhanced.
Manually load it and then factory reset and setup from scratch and see if these reboots top?

You seem very knowledgeable. My r9000 hasn't update in 3 years but I notice there is a newer firmware, 1.06.46. Is it safe to install. I am still on 1.05.42.

Up to you. Can take the stance, "if it works, don't fix it."

Yep, the reboots are not a big problem and sometimes goes about 2 weeks. I hate to install it and cause more problems. But I never had to do a re-setup after an install.

Sometimes it's best to factory reset and setup from scratch. Something in the router maybe mis configured or not working right. If you haven't done one in a long time, maybe over due.
What all do you have connected at the router?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended. How is the wifi configured?
Also you may want to give Voxels FW for the R9000 a try as well. He's been continuing to update FW for the R9000.

Might be coming up on time to watch for a newer device. The R9000 was a rock star (and still is for certain things) but the AD spec never really caught on so its basically a AC2600 device with plex and a 10g sfp+ port. If its needing rebooting regularly, its probably beginning to have issues. Something basic like the RS300 would give you multigig and BE support so faster wireless and better concurrent usage.
