Nighthawk R7000 always redirects to 192.168.1.1/genie_index.htm

Hello,

My router wasn't used for a long time and I took it out to use at my parents house and I reset it and reloaded the oldest firmware (V1.0.0.96_1.0.15), so then I can upgrade to the latest firmware.

The issue I'm having now, is that I can't get back to the admin screens to upgrade the firmware or do anything else.  It keeps going to the checking internet connection genie help.  I had it hooked up to the internet at my parents and it still couldn't find the internet so now I'm working on it, but I have it connected directly to my laptop with no internet connect connected to it.  I want to access the admin screens on the router and upgrade the firmware.

Is there anything I can do to correct this issue and get it working again?

Thank you

  • Yes, That was the issue.  I figured it out.  When it asks if I want the Genie to set it up I was saying yes, but this time I chose "No" to set it up myself and it let me into the admin section.  I was able to download the latest firmware and install it and it just restarted and it looks good.

Thank you everyone for your help.

    Jerry

    Try a different browser?

Factory reset the router and setup from scratch using a web browser at 192.168.1.1.

      Thank you Furry,

I have tried resetting the router from the back for the 30-30-30 and I tried chrome, firefox and edge and they all redirect me to the genie which checks for internet connection.  It's so weird because I was able to downgrade the firmware from the screens I'm looking for, but they won't come up again.

I do not have a solution for you as this is the first time I've heard of such a behavior. Just want to note that a 30-30-30 reset does not work on ARM-based routers. Only MIPS ones.
