Nighthawk (X10) R9000 - option 61
Hi,
Currently in the UK my ISP is SKY. I wish to use my Netgear R9000 router (https://www.netgear.com/support/product/r9000#page-2) in place of the supplied SKY router. I see from posts online that SKY uses a different protocol:
"Sky Broadband UK does not use PPPoA or PPPoE, it uses a unique
> frustrating method of MER (DHCP Option 61)"
I also have found out that the R9000 does support option 61 with firmware versions newer than 1.0.4.28 (mine is currently 1.0.5.42 (latest) see https://kb.netgear.com/000062426/Which-NETGEAR-routers-support-DHCP-option-60-and-61
So the question is how do I set this up on my R9000, I cannot see this as an option in the internet settings, I see only a variety of PPPoE or DHCP settings but no MER. Am I looking at incorrect area (Internet) should I set this value someplace else?
Any help appreciated.

What do you want the R9000 to do?
If it is just wifi, and/or USB ReadySHARE, you can put the R9000 into Wireless Access Point mode.
How do I change my NETGEAR router to AP mode? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
but then you hit this:

What is that SKY router? They have supplied quite a few variations over the years.
What sort of Internet do you have?
What do you intend to use to connect you to the Internet? The R9000 won't do it on its own. It has no modem function.
michaelkenward I want my router simply for wifi and fixed ethernet connectivity - no file sharing.
I current have 150mbs fibre (FTTP) and when i had BT it was a simple connection from the R9000 to the optical unit in the room via an RJ45 ethernet connection - no problems!
I want to completely bypass the sky router and just use the R9000 as I did when using BT fibre service
Thanks

OK. Fibre and an ONT.
So you should be able to ditch the SKY box, unlike DSL, which needs a modem.

AP mode can't do that.
Did you find this?

Try looking at the WAN setup or maybe under Advanced Tab/Advanced settings for this menu item.
Will do - thank you
