Not able to login to Router web GUI/App after wrong update

Hello, I hope someone can help me with this weird issue. I had a Netgear R7000 router on which I wrongly installed the firmware version EA6900_386.7_2 (the linksys one) .

The update was successful but after the update only the red light(on the power) is glowing and I am neither able to login to the web GUI/ App with the username/password which was working earlier.

Even I am not able to factory reset the router using the reset button. I try to keep it pressed, but nothing happens .

I am kinda stuck with the router with the wrong firmware version and I cannot roll it back as I cannot connect to GUI.

Does anyone have some suggestions for it?

How in the world did you get Linksys FW on a NG router?

Only thing I can think if is to try this:

    https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
Need to press the reset button for 30 seconds then release, then it send to PUT the command and upload the FW.
Make sure you enable tftp: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
Video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9DLrLQrpaw
I had a problem on a Windows 10 PC where this didn't work to use TFTP, so I switched to a Windows 7 PC and the TFTP worked.
    Mac TFTP: https://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0001247

    Try nmrpflash:
    https://github.com/jclehner/nmrpflash

Look at the Linksys FW default log in settings to see what the log in maybe to see if that can get you in.

IF this all fails, the router would need to be replaced.

    Good Luck.

I'm betting you started with a 3rd party firmware like ddwrt?

Because the stock netgear firmware would have prevented you from installing that.

find out what 3rd party firmware you had on the router and post in that forum.

they'll be best able to help you get the right firmware on there.

Either that, or they used one of those odd telnet commands (artmtd) that allow you to change the identity of a router. We had to do that when beta testing DumaOS on an R7800 before the hardware was ready.

I doubt if that would help in this case, but it does suggest that your next bit is spot on.

Go visit the place where they cooked up the 3rd party firmware and reverse engineer the process they go through. It sure isn't something that many people here will have experienced.

Thanks for the reply guys , I was able to solve it as the linksys firmware needs to be reset while rebooting the router. I did a factory reset changed username and password , and the installed the correct firmware version on the router to fix the issue . been a hassle though 🙂
