R6700v3 and OpenDNS
Question: Can I still configure my router to use OpenDNS servers, specifically the following:
Primary DNS: 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS: 208.67.220.220
Background: I logged into my router and checked for updates. An update is available. The release notes include the following: "Removed OpenDNS support." I don't have an OpenDNS account and I am not trying to use Live Parental Controls. I just want to use OpenDNS to resolve address lookups.

michaelkenward - Thanks for the reply. I do not want to use the router's "Get Automatically from ISP" setting to specify which DNS server to use. Instead, I want to use 208.67.222.222 as the primary DNS server and 208.67.220.220 as the secondary DNS server, both of which I have read are provided by OpenDNS and both of which are also at the bottom of the OpenDNS web home page Cloud Delivered Enterprise Security by OpenDNS
I just want to make sure, before installing the available Netgear router update, that I will still be able to use the above DNS servers even though one of the router update release notes is "Removed OpenDNS support."

Like I said, the setting for the Domain Name Server (DNS) has nothing to do with OpenDNS.
You can easily apply the new firmware update and if you have lost an important setting you can revert to the firmware version you have now.
In any case, whatever you do it would also be a good idea to save a backup of your current configuration. The manual tells you how to do that.

If your ISP supports IPv6, you can also configure the DNS to include IPv6 servers in the Advanced -> Advanced Setup section.
For Open DNS their server addresses are:
IPv4 Primary: 208:67:222:222
Secondary: 208:67:220:220
IPv6 Primary: 2620:0:ccc:0:0:0:0:2
Secondary: 2620:0:ccd:0:0:0:0:2
I would be curious of the specifics of the release note you mentioned. I can find no mention of "Removed OpenDNS Support". A link would be helpful.

But that is not the same as using an OpenDNS account, which is what the new firmware breaks.
Out of interest, what does using an Open DNS server do that you won't get with other DNS servers?

Great. Now I understand. I do not have an OpenDNS account.

Actually, I am not sure. I have read that using certain DNS servers can be faster and safer than others and that OpenDNS was a good one.

Kitsap - Thanks for the reply. I don't know if my ISP supports IPv6. I will ask them.
I did not see the "Removed OpenDNS support" release note on the Netgear firmware downloads page for my router. I saw it when I did the following:
Logged into router>
Advanced tab>
Administration tab>
Router update tab>
Check button
The router then checked with the Netgear servers. A message came back stating that an update was available. That statement included eight release notes. "Removed OpenDNS support" was the third one.

To follow up from my posts yesterday: I updated my router firmware yesterday and all seems well. None of my router's settings changed including the OpenDNS server numbers that I had previously set on the router. Internet browsing speeds and reliability seem about the same as they were before the update.
Thanks to michaelkenward and Kitsap for your replies and helpful information on DNS servers.
