R7000 2.4ghz not working but 5ghz is fine
Firmware 1.0.4.30 and 1.0.4.28 tried for weeks at a time.
Wireless devices connected to 5ghz band are all working perfectly and have been since i purchased this router at the beginning of June 2015.
As of 1.5 months ago, 2.4ghz band has been very intermittent, and at this point i was already using firmware 1.0.4.30. Rebooting the router did not do anything. I do not have any settings on the router except the ssid, password and channels.
I tried going back to firmware 1.0.4.28 and that only worked for maybe 2 days, then the disconnects started again. i have been using Wifi Analyzer app on my tablet just to see if there is a transmission signal from the router. 5ghz band has a constant transmission signal however the 2.4ghz band has an off to on time of maybe 3:1 at the best of times. This allows me to SOMETIMES connect to the router while on 2.4ghz band, but usually it will not connect. I have been forced to connect my desktop via a really long ethernet cable and older devices no longer have internet connections. I am currently still monitoring the off to on time and the worst as of yet is about 10:1. Basically the 2.4 ghz band is completely dead minus random spikes of it showing up.
I've seen a few posts with the 5ghz band issue similarly but no fix either. I used to have a wndr3700 and that worked fine until the range on the router out of nowhere and permanently dropped by about 25% causing me to buy a repeater to get coverage. Using the repeater solved the distance issue but then i had issues with connection speed (not huge but noticeable). I figured buying an R7000 would be a no brainer since its a top of the line unit and priced as such. I am very disappointed as i haven't been able to find a fix anywhere for this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Good news! We now have a production version of firmware that should resolve the 2.4 GHz issue, v1.0.5.64. You may download this firmware from our R7000 page here: http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/R7000#searchResults
As IrvSp correctly notes, this version of firmware fixes the 2.4 GHz issue and reinstates the new features, such as Kwilt, Smart Connect, and WiFI Transmit Power Control. It does not support Arlo. We hope to have a beta version that supports Arlo in the next two weeks.
We welcome any feedback you provide on this new firmware, and appreciate your patience as we resolved these issues. Thank you all for supporting the R7000 and NETGEAR!

V1.0.4.30_1.1.67 works for me. Didn't do a factory reset but it now lets devices on 2.4ghz. Frustrating way to spend a few hours.
- BhyteAspirantHave been following this thread for the last month or so since 2.4ghz stopped working.
Factory reset fixed 2.4ghz issue but then I ran into issues this week where speed (20mb/0.5mb) was nowhere near what I would/should get by going directly through cable modem (100mb/10mb). Downgraded the firmware to ..4.30.. and speeds are back to normal now too.
My first Netgear router, bought a few months ago...doesn't give good first impressions guys. - tn77StarIf they get this thing fixed I believe the reliability issue will be fixed. This router was perfect for me for 16 months until they messed it up. Have no fear!
- KazzMANIAApprenticeMy experience exactly.
To be fair every company has their share of issues with firmware updates (even Cisco's high end stuff). They appear to have seen that there's an issue and are working on it. I have used Netgear for years and they are solid products.
They were just trying to give people more features on this model for free to work with their Arlo cameras. I don't doubt that they will get a new release up soon. For now just run 1.0.4.30 and you will be good. Going on 1 month now with 0 issues after having issues with 1.0.6.28.
I did a writeup here: http://www.timothyhoogland.com/2016/02/ttt-netgear-r7000-nighthawk-wireless-and-firmware-issues-review/

Have the same issue. But wanted to ask the forum, did if anyone try R7000-V1.0.5.52_1.1.81.chk version?
I have downloaded it but I am wondering if anyone have experience the same issue with it.
- BhyteAspirantI was on 1.0.5.52 and had serious speed issues. Had to go back to 1.0.4.30 (the latest that hasn't been pulled from their site), and reboot the router a couple times before it stabilized.
I respect that Netgear is adding free features. I'm a software engineer myself, however, the rest of the family in the house is not and don't care when the $200 router I just bought can't even play their simple YouTube videos :) - KazzMANIAApprenticeI've been running 1.0.4.28 for two weeks without issue but am curious where we are at with release candidate: any news?
Hello,
rpoffen has stated that Netgear is working on a fix for v 1.0.6.28 and should be out in a couple of weeks. Netgear tech support told me to go back to v 1.0.5.48 until they had a fix for the latest version. My
R7000 is working fine now that I rolled back my firmware V.

- NiferNETGEAR Employee RetiredOkay, thanks for the feedback, I have someone checking on the link. I'm sorry this isn't working correctly and hope to have it resolved promptly. Thanks!
Hi Nifer,
I had previously volunteered to test the release candidate but did not feel it was reasonable to require me to sign a legal document to do so. So, I am glad you posted a link directly to the software - unfortunately my netgear signin does not work for that link.
I completely agree with Hajster that Netgear needs to clear this up with a notice and appology to all, including me, that received the admonition from Netgear to upgrade. I would add that Netgear should be less harsh in rejecting requests for support - my request was 92 days after purchase and it was flat rejected unless I paid additional. I then had to find this message string by myself. Leaves a bad tase.
Hi jdoncarlus,
My feelings exactly. I actually received two e-mails from Netgear telling me how important it was to upgrade my R7000 router to the new firmware. I did so and that is when my 2.4ghz stopped working. I also called Netgear support and since my router was 120 days old they would not offer any phone support unless I paid a fee for that. I eventually convinced them that since the reason I am having this problem is not something I did but rather Negear released a firmware release that was buggy. I was then in contact with a tier 2 tech support tchnician and he just asked me to go back to the previous firmware. After I did that everything worked again. It does sound like Nifer from Netgear is trying to help us all resolve this problem. I certainly do not plan on doing any future firmware upgrades until I hear from this forum that it is working properly. Thanks again for Nifer's help and everyone on this forum working together on this problem.

I also cannot log in to download the firmware using the above posted link.

I am very sorry that the link I provided previously didn't work. To resolve the download difficult py, we moved the firmware from our website into Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gff35js08j6nzof/R7000-V1.0.6.40_1.1.90.chk?dl=0
Please let me know if you can't access the firmware at this link.
We had hoped to provide production firmware yesterday, but have delayed for another week. The release candidate, which is the same firmware in Dropbox, has successfully passed our QA tests. However, our software engineers have asked for a few more days of testing.
The feedback has been positive from those of you who have kindly tested. But we have difficulty repeatedly inducing this problem in our lab, so it's hard to confirm that this fix will resolve all the issues you've experienced.
We feel badly that we inconvenienced everyone with the previous version of firmware, so we want to take a little more time to confirm that this latest firmware truly fixes the problem. I apologize for the delay.
Thank you again for your patience and your invaluable feedback and help resolving this issue.
