R7800: Reset password text gets automatically changed (MAC)

Hello, I own an R7800 and recently my admin password was not   accepted. I have reset all parameters using a safe password from apple password manger and confirmed the security answers for the password recovery.

Now when I tried to log in again then it failed on both the log in and the password recovery. I realized that when I click on "continue" the text box of the answers gets changed by a random sentence. It changes the answer: "Barxxx" by "jQmFyY2Vsb25h".

This second word I can't control and every time I log into the page it changes randomly. I assume the first "encrypted word" has been stored into the router and now I can't find it anymore.

I am afraid the router has been hacked.

It happened to me some weeks ago and I could completely reset the router and manage to recover everything but now I can't reset the router anymore.

Can you please help?

Regards

    What happens when you try?

It frozes, the lan ports LED are blinking and the power LED is fixed ON all the rest are off. And although the router responds to ping it does not connect to internet nor allow access to the password website. The only solution is to switch off and on again but then it gets back to the previous config without having reset.

Are you actually factory resetting? Or just using password recovery?
I'd try a full reset and reinstall. Push and hold reset for 7-15 seconds while powered on.

Then reinstall without using a backup configuration.

What happens if you try a 30-30-30 reset process on the router?

        1. With the router plugged in and powered on, depress the reset button for 30 seconds.
        2. While still holding down the button, unplug the router from its power source for another 30 seconds.
        3. With the reset button still held down, turn the power back on and hold for another 30 seconds.
