R8500

Hi,

Good old spectrum just "updated" their system....oh, joy.  Their tech who came out said that calls went from 250 a day to 1500 starting 2 months ago with the upgrades, which is when i noticed the intermittent drop outs until a week ago when in became intolerable, 2 days ago then dead connection.

The nighthawk is the R8500.

I have an arris sb6190 modem they flashed with docsis 3.1 but nothing, they came out replaced splitter with 3.5gh and added a booster, nothing.

Modem talking fine fine back to server router leds showing everything good, the wifi devices showing connection to router but no internet. We thought it was the modem.

Bypassing the router the modem direct connect to lap or desk it works great.

So what is happening in the router?

Any thoughts etc welcomed.

thanks

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended

      Hi,

is this what happens when bricked? anything i can do or use it as a doorstop?

Did you factory reset the R8500 with it not connected the ISP modem and see if you can complete the setup wizard. You can manually set it up with a PC and web browser.

It shouldn't have taken two weeks for bugs to kick in, but the router may not be the only thing to troubleshoot. You never know what may be going on at the ISP end that is causing "network rot" at your end.

In effect, your wonderful ISP has given you a shiny new Internet service. That means that, if you haven't done so already, you may need to nuke the settings on your R8500 and introduce it to the new Internet. (A slightly less severe approach is to run the router through the Internet setup wizard.)

    Then there is this stuff:

Modem talking fine fine back to server router leds showing everything good, the wifi devices showing connection to router but no internet. We thought it was the modem.

Bypassing the router the modem direct connect to lap or desk it works great.

Again, new Internet service. It isn't obvious what is and isn't connecting to what there, but if you have a Windows PC anywhere in the mix it may be doing its thing to protect you from nasties. It can do that by blocking you from the Internet.

One thought is that you could tell Windows that you are on a "private network".

    • Network and Internet settings
    • Network Status
    • Change Connection Properties
    • Network Profile
    • Private

I'm told that this is rubbish advice. But it has worked for me and others in the same boat.
