Taking ethernet output and distributing it
I have problems with line drops on my VDSL2 incoming line. I also have a modem/router from another manufacturer which can fall over to a SIM provided broadband so I don't lose connectivity. It is not nearly as capable as the Nighthawk; 2.4G wifi only and 100Mb LAN ethernet speed. It has occurred to me that I can use the first as just a modem and the Nighthawk to distribute the signal to the LAN network. However, if I take the output from the first modem/router and feed it into the yellow WAN socket of the Nighthawk it can't understand it and simply says no internet connection. Can I get the Nighthawk to accept the already decoded ethernet signal and distribute it?
then try the 2nd device in access point mode. That leaves the primary router controlling lease/dhcp

Solved: you have to disable DHCP BEFORE you connect to the other router. It still seems to give out IP addresses but it all works so I'm not poking the beast any further.

your correct, if both are running in router mode, it causes a double nat. We usually have a couple things we recommend for fixing that. Disabling dhcp on the netgear is one route.
Great investivative skills.
If you mark it solved, it keep others from trying to solve the problem.
Hi, thank you for your reply. It hasn't quite worked, as the issue of lease time raised its head. I need to cut all the leases to 5 minutes and start again as my sttaic IPs all got broken. So not quite solved yet.
