X10 question, 2.5Gbit solutions etc..
Hi all, I bought a Nighthawk X10 a while back for $10 at thrift. Love this thing, but I'm now faced with a forced upgrade from my ISP (no complaints, it's the same price).
My issue: the X10's ports are 1Gbit and won't be able to utilize the 1200Mbit upgrade, however, there IS the matter of that 10Gbit SFP+ port.. I know what it is, but not sure if the X10 allows it to be used for anything other than a NAS. Here's my situation though:
Xfinity, going from 800Mbps to 1200Mbps. I'm in the market for a new modem, quite possibly a CM3000 (for below cost due to built up rewards) or a Motorola B12. Both modems are supported, both handle up to 2.5Gbps. My question is, do I stay with the x10 and buy a switch that has an SFP+ port and divides the load into four 2.5Gbps ports (allowing me to utilize my 1200Mbps subscription), or buy an RS100 router for $150, or, try to connect my PC directly to the SFP+ port on the X10 using a dedicated NIC that has an SFP+ port?
Off topic, I know there's some firmware updates by voxal, I haven't looked into those yet. What do they offer by comparison to the EOL firmware from NG?
So ya, you can configure the SPF port for WAN side configuration:
My router has Voxel FW loaded since NG stock went EoL. So you could load his FW up and get a bit more support and operation from the R9000.
Let us know how it goes.

Been a while since I had mine online, however I don't think it supports WAN side connections on the SPF port. I did buy a 10Gb SFP to ethernet adapter and it works on the LAN side.
If you don't see any configurations for the SFP port to be used on the WAN side, then it's LAN side only.
Something to try and see with Voxels FW.

Major oversight on my part. I just realized the WAN port on the x10 is limited to 1Gbit input :'( that means I'll lose the extra 200mbit from the ISP if I continue using this router. Darn... should I opt for an RS100 then?

Something that has a 2.5Gb or higher WAN port support.
Even a RAX120/200 or RAXE500 has options as well however are older models.

Having used an X10 for several years, I can confirm the SPF port can be configured as the WAN input. Pick a good Cat 6 STP (shielded twisted pair) Ethernet cable and it works like a charm connected to a 2.5 Gbps output port on a modem. I can also recommend the Voxel firmware. Voxel keeps all of the security bits and pieces up to date.

My X10 is no longer in service. I recall it being in the WAN setup section.
