iPhone Wifi Calling on Airplane Mode

I normally use airplane mode on my iPhone when at home.Wifi Calling is enabled.  Recently all three of our iPhones are no longer able to make and receive wifi calls (popup "No Network Connection" select cancel of disable airplane mode") .  We are still able to text and connect to the internet with browser access).  Google AI suggested to Disable SIP ALG on the router 192.168.1.1 which I have done (Advanced >Setup>>Wan Setup>Disable SIP ALG (found) and IPSec ALG (not found).

Is anyone else experiencing this seemingly new issue? 

BTW, in the mobile Nighthawk App, I can connect to the router locally or vial Anywhere Access. What is the preferred access when at home?

    FMI: Use Airplane Mode on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro says:

     

    With Airplane Mode, you can turn off cellular and Wi-Fi on your device during a flight.

    Turn on Airplane Mode

    • On your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro, open Control Center and tap the Airplane Mode button. This turns off all radios except for Bluetooth. Turning on Airplane Mode can also help to save battery, lower roaming charges while traveling, and force a signal refresh.
    • On your Apple Watch, press the side button to open Control Center, then tap the Airplane Mode button. In watchOS 9 and earlier, swipe up from the watch face to open Control Center.

    If the airline allows it, you can still use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in Airplane Mode. If you turn off Bluetooth while you're in Airplane Mode, your device turns off Bluetooth the next time that you turn on AirPlane Mode.

    Turn on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth while in Airplane Mode

    If your airline allows it, you can use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth while in Airplane Mode.

    1. Open Control Center, then turn on Airplane Mode.
    2. Tapto turn on Wi-Fi or to turn on Bluetooth.
    3. If you turn on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth while in Airplane Mode, it may still be on the next time you return to Airplane Mode. You can turn it off again in Control Center.

    Saying that much: Even in Airplane mode, you can explicitly turn on Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth.

    As long you are within your home WiFi coverage, and not on some other VLAN or VPN, locally is the preferred way.
