RS700 400-500 Mbp's Down/ 50 Up

Hello! I really need some help on figuring this out. My router will not, under any circumstances, maintain 1 Gbps up or down speeds.

When i reboot the router the RS700 I get 1Gig up and down no problem. Then all the sudden it drops down to 500 up and 50 down.

I have turned off QOS, Traffic Monitoring, Access List, Armor, Open NAT, Parental Controls, there was essentially NO security turned on. Still giving me 500 and 50 down.

I have factory reset the RS700, left it on default settings, same thing. 1 Gig Up and Down after a reboot for about 10 minutes, then back to 500/50.

I have the RS700 and RS300. The RS300 DOES NOT do this.

Also these speeds are at the router itself using it's inbuilt speedtest with ookla. I put the RS300 and I get 1 gig up and down. The RS700, even on factory reset will not do this. It always reverts to 500 up and 50 down after a few minutes.

What in the world is causing this? This thing way WAY too expensive for this.

  • I am confused how a 700 dollar router, with QoS turned on has horrible Bufferbloat issues ..

  • And It's doing it again. May just be out of options with a defective unit. I am looking for the Beta. I don't see an option to download it. For the RS700-S or the RS700

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

What speeds are seen with a ethernet connected PC and Ooklas installable speed test app on this PC?

CAT6A STP - This is being used already

      Calix - GigaPoint 803G

      Model Number 100-04255 10

PC speed is getting about 500 mbps per second down and 50 up

At the actual router it's getting about 500-600 and 60mbps up

I presume you have tested a ethernet connected PC directly connected to the ONT to compare results?

IPv6 and Protection Engine disabled on the RS router? Can't remember if PE is featured on the 700 series or not.

Can try more recent FW version however there other known issues with that version. NG had a beta that maybe available to you.

  • Let me correct myself, sorry. I get 500 Down and 50 Up (not vice versa).
