Can anyone help me understand credentials on my ReadyNAS 104?

Hello all,

Firmware 6.10.0  Being accessed from Windows 11

I have just signed up for some iDrive.com cloud storage and I want to include my mapped drives (on the ReadyNAS) in my backup.

I've attached a file with a couple of (combined) screen shots from the ReadyNAS plus a screen shot of iDrive as I tell it to include one of the mapped drives in the backup schema.

iDrive is asking for credentials to read the drives.

As far as I remember, I didn't enter credentials in the setup of the shares on the ReadyNAS (but maybe I did and killed that braincell).

My question is - what do I need to do to allow iDrive to read from the mapped drives?

Please don't assume too much knowledge here in your answer if you don't mind.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers!

  • Unless you are logging in with the admin account and the default password (password), which is a really bad idea, then you did create at least a new password, if not a user name.  You likely had your computer save those credentials, which is why you don't need to enter them.  In the admin GUI, you can see the user names and change the passwords, but you can't view the passwords.  You can go change the password for the account you are using or create a new account expressly for iDrive to use.  If you did save your password to the Windows credential manager and/or browser, you will have to change them there if you change your password.  If you do create a new account for iDrive, make sure you give it the access it needs in the appropriate shares.  And it's always a good idea to reset the file access to make sure a new user has the proper access to existing folders and files.

So as you might have seen from the attachment on my original post, I have two users defined - Admin and TechJock, so you are suggestiong that I must have told windows to use one of those users with its respective password.

Thanks - I must get a new memory one of these days.

I will have a go at creating a new user to use for iDrive now.

      Really appreciate the response!

Windows can only use one username for the NAS at a time.

There is a trick to let you use two - it considers the hostname to be a different machine than the IP address.  So you can use one user account for the hostname and a different one for the IP address.

Or use TechJock for for iDrive.
