Thanks to your inspiration I solved it my changing the network login password from the old pre update username to the new post update email address as username via windows credentials... thanks everyone :-)

I found that changing my ReadyCloud/Mynetgear account details to a different email address from that used for my Microsoft account / Windows login solved the problem. Seems to me that SMB access had been broken for email accounts associated with the cloud services.

But I don't use the same email address for my readynas/my netgear and my microsoft account. Just to check I did change it anyway (to a third email) and it still gives me the same problem as above... :-(
