So thanks to the help of others on this forum my immediate problem is solved - I have ReadyNAS Remote working from Windows 7 and 8 clients - thanks again. However... using ReadyNAS Remote those users can see ALL my shares not just the ones I want them to have access to via user / group permissions. They can't actually get into the shares they don't have access to but i'd prefer they not even see that they exist unless they have access.
In the Share options under the CIFS tab there's an option: "Hide this share when a user browses the ReadyNAS for available shares." and when I check that it has the desired effect of preventing users form seeing those shares that I don't want to appear. However, the problem is a side-effect. I now also can no longer see that share thru my Mac Finder or Windows File Explorer when I'm on the LAN with direct network (LAN) access to the NAS. I can navigate to the hidden folders by typing in their name but I'd prefer to see them.
Is there a way of hiding the shares based on the user / group access model when using ReadyNAS Remote but without the side-effect described above?
If not... my ultimate goal would be to go back to getting WebDAV working via HTTPS. As I described here -> viewtopic.php?f=23&t=79493 this works fine thru OSX and use to work in Windows XP but no longer works on any Windows client. I read the notes on XP here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12255 which at the end says it can't be made to work on Windows 7. But there's a subsequent KB article here -> http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24815 that says it can work on Windows 7 with a few registry changes.
I tried the KB articles instructions on both XP and Win 7 but just get "unknown network error" when trying to log in (see my other thread referenced above for more detail). I've seen posts by others who apparently do have WebDAV working on Win 7 and Win 8. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks,
- Charles
