So for those of you having password problems on your Mac. You're probably using a 64bit Mac and there's a problem with the authentication using a 64bit Mac. Because... hey.. who would have one of those in 2014? If you want to play with something called TunTap. I've heard that, that fixes the problem. I refuse to do so.
Now I want to mention that it's pretty ridiculous that in 2014 that a 64bit Mac isn't support OUT OF THE BOX. I've had this thing for 2 months and while it does a great job as a RAID. None of the apps I was promised work.
And now for the real rant. I basically did a search for the lies told on this document:
http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26042
Specifically:
ReadyNAS Remote app for Windows and Mac has been replaced by ReadyCLOUD desktop app. Mmm.. no.. no it hasn't.
which means this is also a lie
ReadyDROP has been replaced by a more granular syncing solution. PC clients using ReadyCLOUD desktop app can sync multiple folders and share with multiple users. Mmm.. no.. not if I can't install it.
And this is also a lie...
Users can find the desktop app installation link by logging into readycloud.netgear.com Mmm.. no, no I can't, because I'm on a Mac.
So, those are all lies. Then I found this forum posting so I installed the BETA just for S&Gs. That didn't work. Same problem as stated before. 64Bit Mac password problem that's plagued this software for about 3 years or so from what I've been able to find. I've seen posts as far back as 2011.
THEN (this is where the rant REALLY starts)... THEN I decided to be nice and post on here for the people that couldn't get their passwords to work so they didn't waste HOURS trying to get it to work like I did before finding out.. it just doesn't. But, what did I have to do? I had to register for the forum. With a different username and password then the one from what I'm already using. OK, that's fine. THEN I had to jump through hoops and confirm my registration. OK, that's pretty standard. BUT THEN I HAD TO POST SOMETHING AS A NEW USER? By this time, I'd lost this entire forum post. I had to go back to the search engine and find the thing. Dig, dig dig. Can't seem to find it through Google again. So I had to go into Google Chrome History to find it.
AND FINALLY I COULD POST THIS INFORMATION THAT THE USELESS APP DOESN'T WORK ON A MAC.
Get your act together NetGear. Fix the Mac application. You might want to watch this as Mac's are about to over take PC's.
