ReadyCloud PC Backup slow transfer speeds

I'm having very different transfer speeds depending on how I send files to the NAS.

I have a new RN314 that I've upgraded to OS 6.2.2. I did a factory reset after upgrading to 6.2.2

If I drag and drop files into folders on the NAS using Windows explorer I can get transfer rates of over 100MB/s. Averaging somewhere over 80 - 100MB/sec. Very happy with this.

But when I use the backup function in the ReadyCloud PC app in Windows 7 (same PC) the transfer speed drops to an average of about 15MB/sec.

I've tried turning Bitrot protection on and off and it doesn't make any difference.

Any ideas?
