I was copying files to my ReadyNAS home folder after successful completion of copying the files. I started receiving a message the folder was no longer accessible. After researching the problem I had discovered the ReadyCloud was disabled, my home folder and all of my personal files have been deleted. I was wondering is there a way to recover my missing files for the NAS devices with through ReadyNAS OS or data recovery tools? And if so what data linux data recovery could I use?

Same thing for me. My main account, yesterday, was deleted remotely....i loose over 2TB of data. I don't know if, when ReadClaud service was back online, the deleted user and their data have been restored......my brother had made a factory reset.
I wonder how is possible that a ReadyCloud problem can DELETE remotely my user in my local disk. Incredible...someone can explain how this is possible????
This is a very serious thing!!!! :(

Holy Crap!
Same thing happend to me overnight. (03/30/2017 to 03/31/2017)
Can login into readycloud website but then it shows my NAS as offline.
Cannot login to admin page as it shows username/ password as bad
Cannot log into SMB of AFP folders via direct network connection ( conntecting to server via mac os)
Can logon via non admin account but only some of my files are there.
Can see NAS on network with good IP adress
Can see on front panel that device is normal
Readynas 104, 6.6.1 firmware (or whateve the latest is)

I have another ReadyNAS device that was unaffected and I am currently moving all data from the home folders in a regular share. I manually administer the security. I no longer have confidence in the ReadyCloud or user home folders when the data could easily be lost just because a user is removed.
- Mike-in-DCMar 31, 2017Guide
Once I was able to log in (using the default user name and password) I changed my admin password and set the recovery email settings.
Then went to the log file to see what was going on.
It showed that two of the four user accounts were deleted about 10 seconds apart.
I am the only admin on this device so unless my 70 year old mother, 50 year old wife or 12 yr old daughter have recenly taken an interest in "that computer thing in the basement" i think something is afoot.
I have not checked to see what data was lost yet, if any. The major share folders I created still seem to be there, Music, Movies ....
My guess is that there is a backdoor into these devices that has now been exploited or there is a major flaw in the firmare/ OS that is randomly deleting users.
My solution to prevent backdoor access is to have the NAS turn on only when I will be home and using it then turn off when I go to bed.
If it's the firmware/ OS then we have to wait for Netgear and backup the backup.
Pretty lame.

i have had the same problem. Readycloud turned itself off on the Readynas, now all my home folders are missing and all my photos are gone.
i used this as a back up only. How on earth do i get them back?
I cannot replace whats disappeared!!!
- MJT1Mar 31, 2017Guide
i can see on the logs that the users have been deleted, does anyone know if this deletes all the data?
- thildebrandtMar 31, 2017Aspirant
i have the same :( yesterday at 15:28:13 warsaw time
my account was deleted
you have to schuttle down the firewall then find device with raidar
login with admin and passwort
and you can download/ grab yours data manually

I am surprised that no one from Netgear responded to message thread yet.
I can not find the original post on this web site, but it recommended if you want to recover your data you can try this.
https://www.google.com/search?q=replicateMe&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=reclaiMe+readynas&*
I can not confirm whether or not it will work, because I am working on the process myself.

I wouldn't try 3rd party software just yet.
I'm away at the moment with limited access to the internet but engineering might have found a way to recover the data.
Please don't run any volume maintenance or make any changes to you volume if possible as these will reduce the chances of partially/fully successful data recovery. If you must access your data still on there for now I would boot to volume read-only mode.
If you can connect a USB HDD (with enough space to hold the deleted data) to your NAS and boot your NAS to tech support mode (a boot menu option), and PM me the 5-digit number you then get and your agreement to http://kb.netgear.com/20932/NETGEAR-Remote-Access-Policy I'll take a look when I'm back.

I am able to login tomy readycloud account but it says my ready NAS is offline. I will not acceot the default user login in the same LAN or the actual username abd password I set. It then brings me to the recovery email page asks me the question I expected but then tell me recover failed when given the correct answer. What is going on with all this!!!!

We have identified the users that were affected by the ReadyCLOUD outage from March 30th 8AM-12PM Pacific. These users experienced reset Home Folders for ReadyCLOUD user accounts. We will be reaching out to ReadyCLOUD owner accounts via e-mail to follow up to offer assistance.
- brlathanjrApr 01, 2017Guide
You need to expand your time range, because I was affected and my account and files were deleted on March 30th at 6:44 AM CDT or 4:44 AM PDT.

Not happy, this is a business system. I think someone at Netgear is having a good April fool joke.
Just had to re-enable readycloud on the NAS, and re-add all the remote users in ReadyCloud. Fortunately not much in the "home" folders. May be able to restore these from backup. Thanks Netgear.

So what are you doing about it? How can you mess things up for your customers so badly, send out a cryptic email on a Friday afternoon, and then leave us all hanging? How dare you!
- jlpscotApr 03, 2017Tutor
Did they send an email?. Because I have had no email whatsoever!!!. Anybody else have been no contacted regarding this deletion of data?

Hi Guy's,
Looks like I'm possibly in the same boat, I was copping files from the NAS to the front USB, 30/03.2017 left the device to do it's thing came back to find I was unable to log into my account via ReadyCloud App or Via Browser, Can't access password recovery and have just tried OS Reinstall to find the default admin/password combo aren't working either.
Any Help would be appreciated.

Same thing for me, this is outrageous.
- jak0lantashApr 01, 2017Mentor
Use local admin account to access the NAS locally. Default credentials are admin / password.
As for the other affected users, ReadyCLOUD is most likely turned off AND unregistered. So if you wish to use ReadyCLOUD again, you'll have to turn it on again and attach with your master ReadyCLOUD account (MyNETGEAR account).

Same issue here:
Did anyone had any support from NETGEAR on how to restore or recover the lost data?. Is it any contact available at NETGEAR to ask for help on this issue?
- Stefano240Apr 01, 2017Aspirant
The same thing happened to me too. Since I bought this NAS to secure my data, this is a totally unacceptable situation. I'm really outraged. Netgear I WANT MY DATA BACK!!!!
- douglas_cheungApr 03, 2017NETGEAR Expert
Hi,
Please send an email to
readycloudsupport@netgear.com from a valid MyNETGEAR email account
to register for your case. Please be descriptive of the situation, as much as possible.
Thank you very much,
Doug
- jak0lantashApr 02, 2017MentorIf you want to reset the password of the local admin user to its default (password), you can perform an OS Reinstall via the Boot Menu:
https://kb.netgear.com/20898/ReadyNAS-ReadyDATA-Boot-Menu - ccreedyApr 02, 2017TutorOS Reinstall didn't work for me, still can't log in using defaults.
- jak0lantashApr 02, 2017Mentor
If you performed an OS Reinstall, use admin / password on the local GUI.
