File size limitation ?
My Vault backups run fine except there a couple of files which are over 2GB in size which never back up - other files in the same folder (around 1GB in size) back up just fine but the larger ones don't. The Current Backup Report shows the job as "Monitoring" with the adjacent slider showing only 43.62% complete (so it must know about these files) but it never backs them up. Can anyone tell me if there is a file size limitation - I can't find it documented anywhere. any ideas how to get around it and get these files to back up ? Thanks

- rnvault_varAspirantHi ronca,
The ReadyNAS Vault service has a individual file size maximum of 5 GB. What size files are you trying to backup?
Please send our Support Team an email at support@vault.readynas.com and we would happy to assist you.
Thanks,
Amanda
ReadyNAS Vault Support Team - roncaAspirantThe two files that are not backing up have the following sizes ...
3,496,073 Kb
5,113,281 Kb
So if the limit is 5GB then at least the first of these should be backing up OK. Please advise

Both of these are less than 5GB in size (assuming they measure 1024 bytes per kilobyte - perhaps they use 1000 bytes per kilobyte?)
(5 113 281 / 1 024) / 1 024 = 4.87640476
You could try a backup without the larger file of the two, if you think that file is too large and see if it works. - roncaAspirantFor anyone else with this problem - it has now been solved by the responsive and helpful folks at ReadyNas tech support.
Turns out some file types are compressed on the NAS before being sent to Vault and the compression code has an incorrect and undocumented limitation of 2GB on file sizes. The files I was backing up are .pst files and these are subject to compression and hence the erroneous limitation.
Temporary workaround is to rename the file to a suffix that doesn't subject it to compression and it backs up just fine then. Support tell me that the limitation will be fixed (or rather increased to the 5GB documented limit) next time they do a release.
Thanks to all - dondraper1AspirantI have a ReadyNAS NV and cannot see all the files through the web manager (https access). The files are database backup files and the files that are not visible are > 2GB with an extension of .bak. Is this extension also being affected by the compression also in this thread or is there another issue that could be causing this? I searched Google and have found nothing else related to this. 2GB is obviously well below the 2TB limit.
Any advice would be appreciated. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredFirstly this a long dead thread, please don't revive these. Open a new thread referring to old thread if necessary in future.
Secondly there is a 2GB limitation for accessing files over WebDAV: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/share/webdav_file_size_limitation
Are you using WebDAV?
