Launching Plex app on RN212 evokes ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

I'm running the Plex app (1.0.0.2261) on my RN212 (firmware 6.5.1) and it's working fine over my network - finds and catalogs new files as I add them to Library folders etc...

However - I can't access the Plex admin panel itself.

I'm used to going in to RN212 Admin panel via Chrome (http://192.168.1.101/admin/) where I can see the Plex App icon under the Apps section on my System tab, and as an Installed App on the Apps tab.

However in both instances... when I click the PLEX icon... instead of opening the Plex admin page, I am directed to http://192.168.1.101:32400/web where I get this error:

The 192.168.1.101 page isn’t working

192.168.1.101 didn’t send any data.
ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

Followed by a Reload button.

Same behavior in Firefox.

Suggestions apprreciated - thanks in advance.

However, the original issue still presents itself - clicking the Plex icon still throws the error above. I just purchased my ReadyNAS a few months ago (and love it). I wondered if a Plex forum might yield results... but as this now seems to be RNapp related... I'm not sure.

Interestingly enough, it also happens with Synology...  https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/168495/chrome-err-empty-response

Note the pictures at the end. Try going in with plex.tv, navigate to settings->network and make sure that secure connections is set to "preferred"

  • To summarize, the issue in my original post still remains...

    • When working locally from the admin panel on my RN212 (firmware 6.5.1) (also- I never remote in), I cannot access Plex. New info: Plex version 1.0.0.2261.
    • Clicking the Plex App icon under the Apps section on my System tab, AND/OR the Plex App icon from the Installed Apps portion of the Apps tab yeilds this error:

      The 192.168.1.101 page isn’t working

      192.168.1.101 didn’t send any data.
      ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

    • Plex continues to work on all devices on my network (again, all local). Also -when I add new media files to the folders Plex monitors, Plex sees them, scrapes them, and updates the GUI to display them in my libraries.

It's beginning to look like it might be an issue with the ReadyNAS Plex icon - as it is sending me to an HTTP addrerss, and not an HTTPS address.

I must manually add https to the url the app directs me to (http://192.168.1.101/admin/). Only then am I able to access the Plex admin panel.

So - Immediate problem solved... I'm able to access my PLEX admin pannel, but it requires a work-around - and thanks to Stephen B for reminding me of Plex.TV.

Again thaks - all for all the input so far - at least I'm in :) Perhps the next update might fix it?

I'm calling this the solution: In Plex Admin go to Settings/Network and set Secure connections to Prefered.

Mine was set to Required, but after changing it to Preferred, the Plex app icons now work - and direct me to the Plex admin page. Not sure how that effects security, but I'm confidant in my network. Odd.

        And thanks!

    Hi ElijahSnow,

Did you try to access the plex admin using HTTPS? or Just HTTP?

It might be trying to do a secure connection only. HTTPS would be required if that is the case.

He clicked on the Plex Icon, so if it's wrong, it's wrong in the app.

If he was accessing the NAS remotely, that might also explain it.

      Now we're onto something.

In Chrome, the "url" displays as "192.168...." in the address bar, so I didn't think about the prefix, but indeed - http was displayed in the tab name.

I manually added https to the beginning... and got a security warning - but also had the option to add an exception.

Adding/Allowing exception let me through to the Plex admin panel.

With the exception added, I tried again to access from within RN212 admin panel using the Plex Icons.

Still denied (as it's pointing at http), but when I change to https it lets me through - it's remembering the exception.

Interesting - I'd forgotten about that option since moving to a NAS-based install - but yes - that does give me access at the admin level, so that aspect is solved.

I'm curious about that, and it's relationship to the page that still doesn't load from within RN212 admin.

Using the plex.tv access, try looking at the server mapping (should be in the settings under remote access).  Confirm that the server is using 32400 locally.
