The ability to format a USB drive is in the GUI in OS4.2.x, but was left out of OS6. I'm not sure why -- seems to me a huge oversight. But if the drive is formatted as a single partition in one of the file systems an OS6 NAS supports (FAT32, NTFS, EXT, or BTRFS), the NAS should automatically mount it and then it will show up on the Volumes page. Using your PC to format it as NTFS is usually the best solution. Just be sure to do a proper removal from the PC.
