Me too. After more research I settled on the E7400 SLGW3. The CPU load on the NAS and VMs are incredibly low all the time and it is running a little cooler.
I was a little intimidated reading through the early parts of this thread, but it really was only 6 screws and some thermal paste. Pretty painless.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread, there's no way I would have even considered this without all the research that came before.
