Faulty performance specs on MS510TXUP ?
Hi
I think of buying a MS510TXUP switch. But the spec says it has only 14.8 Mpps packet forwarding rate. That would at 64byte packets give a 10Gbit/s packet rate for the whole switch. A switch that has 6 x10Gbit/s plus 4 x 5Gbit/s ports (a total of 80 Gbit/s if maxed out on the ports)...
Today I have a prosafe S3300-28X switch (4x10Gbit + 24x1Gbit = a total of 64 Gbit). The S3300 switch has a packet forward rate of 95 Mpps according to its spec which I think I reasonable for that S3300-28X switch as that would give over 60Gbit/s which is almost wire speed on all ports with the smallest packet size.
I need more 10 Gbit interfaces. I where for think of MS510TXUP.
The MS510TXUP however... Can this be a typo in the MS510TXUP spec. Should it be 148 Mpps instead of 14.8? If the MS510TXUP really is limited to 14.8 Mpps, the whole switch can only handle 10Gbit/s in total (calculated on smallest packet size).
I can see that a switches that are smaller than MS510TXUP, like for example MS510TX, MS510TXPP has much higher packet forwarding rate (58 Mpps). I.e 4 times more...
Anyone that knows?

Hi
If someone is interested.... I have got a reply now from Netgear backline.
--snip--
Our engineers did some test on the MS510TXUP, they confirmed that the forwarding rate of total system is 104.17 Mfps.
--snip--
That sounds like a more reasonable value than the spec sheet 14.8 Mfps.
So the official spec sheet of MS510TXUP is wrong!
NOW I can buy a bunch of these 🙂

Looks like a typo on the data sheet to me. Operating a bunch of MS510TXUP on 10 Gb networks, trouble-free..

Hi and tnx for the answer.
Can you in some way verify that you have passed this 10Gbit/s total limit (i.e 14.8 Mpps packet forwarding rate) that according do spec exists for the whole switch (limit if all packeds are 64byte of course). Of course it is hard for you to guarantee this as there are also bigger packages than 64byte going over the wire. But as you have this particular switch, can you say something more about its performance.
I have asked Netgear about this, but have not yet got any answer. So I thinking back and forth if I dare to buy it before Netgear give me he answer...
