Actually as this is doing weird things using SSH i.e. installing the wrong Python package this definitely is something for the community not for a support case. As mentioned in https://community.netgear.com/t5/Current-NETGEAR-and-Partners/Problems-installing-Python-27233558/m-p/1127481 the problem has probably been resolved this time.

Hi Jen,
Thanks for your reply, but none of those things are really relevant. The problem exists at shell level and has nothing to do with the webservices gui that Netgear have installed on the box.
However, I have a ReadyNAS314, on firmware version 6.5.1 and yes I have tried installing via the GUI, which as far as I know simply executes the apt-get command on the backend, and it fails.

Hello jiska78,
I see, then I think it is best if you contact support center about this.
I checked your profile and found that you are a PowerShift member, please contact support center to report this so it can be escalated to higher tier.
Regards,

Support won't be able to assist me - this is not a Netgear problem, it is a Linux one - that is why I'm posting in the community forums instead of lodging a support case???
