Thanks for the reply.
Firmware on both is 6.10.5. Updated within the last week. I need to check regarding access to internet. I think the answer must be yes because I was able to check the firmware versions and update it from the admin pages of each.
Both the browser and the app versions have the same problem: both think the devices are offline.
I suspect the problem is that my router is obstructing certain types of traffic. I also have a problem with Plex that only started when I switched to this router. I am unable to scan my Plex music folders. I can scan film and TV folders but when I try to scan music folders I get a message to the effect that my computer is not connected to the internet. (Plex is running on my computer not the NAS, I should add, and the music folders are on usb attached storage not NAS storage). I can play and edit the music content, just not perform scans. If I want to update PLEX for new music content I switch my computer to use a tethered mobile phone internet connection (but leave the router running and the LAN intact) and the PLEX problem goes away. But the ReadyNAS problem remains. I can access the NAS devices via the router through internet explorer and RAIDar can still see them but not ReadyNAS.
One of my tech blindspots is dealing with routers. I'm particularly reluctant to deal with this one as I bought it on eBay and it is not supported by my ISP. Whilst broadly speaking it works, the admin password on the back of it doesn't: it must have been reset and the seller isn't communicating so I will have to press the factory reset button and then try.

That could be.
If you post the router manufacturer/model we can perhaps give more advice on settings.

It's a Huawei B535. This is also a mobile SIM-based router. I live in one of the UK's broadband blackspots. All the usual wired broadband providers will guarantee no more than 1.5mbps but the house is at least near a cell tower for two mobile carriers and I can get adequate speeds from them..
Lack of choice of mobile routers was one of the things that led me to buying one on eBay.

That could be part of the puzzle - it might be linked to your carrier, and not the router itself.

Huawei does have a quickstart pdf, but no user manual. Unfortunately the quickstart doesn't include anything on the router configuration.

There are a few different possibilities here. I will just work through them one at a time.
I must admit I lean towards thinking it's the router rather than the carrier though my reasons for thining this may be mistaken: it seems like a problem that exists within my LAN rather than involving the internet connection.
The PLEX issue on the other hand appears to have an internet element... at least as far as the music scanning part of the app is concerned. That one is even more odd. I often have my router and mobile phone connected to the computer at the same time and just select the phone when I want to run the music scan. Oddly if I start the scan with the phone connected then disconnect the phone the scan process is happy to continue with the router being its only connection to the internet. It just won't START with the router alone.
The big different between PLEX and Netgear is that whereas it's possible to get helpful suggestions from the Netgear community, the PLEX community forum is non-functional as regards problems and issues never elicit a response from anyone with any association with PLEX.
