Readynas Public Link down?
My ReadynasPhotoII says my HostName for web forwarding is not registered. It has been registered for over a year. It appears the site linking to our servers is down. Anyone else having the same issue? :x

- QuakerWildcatAspirantI just spent 75 minutes on the phone with Netgear and it took the first hour just to finally convince the tech guy that I wasn't doing anything wrong. He had me on hold for a while before finally coming back and concluding that the Photos II service is just not working. How did he find out? He went to the Netgear forums!
What kind of company has major outages and doesn't let either the users or the technical support staff know? If this was a free app for my phone, I'd shrug and say c'est la vie. But this is an advertised feature of a $500 product.
This is my first experience with ReadyNAS, and I am massively underimpressed. - Sir_YaroAspirantIt looks like ftp access doesnt work either:
[R] Connecting to ftp.photos.readynas.com -> DNS=ftp.photos.readynas.com IP=206.16.42.235 PORT=21
[R] Connected to ftp.photos.readynas.com
[R] 220 Welcom to ftp.photos.readynas.com upload service.
[R] USER teststorage-testpin
[R] 331 Please specify the password.
[R] PASS (hidden)
[R] 500 OOPS: vsftpd: refusing to run with writable root inside chroot()
[R] Connection failed
[R] Delaying for 120 seconds before reconnect attempt #1
It looks like netgear sys admins update vsftpd server to version 2.3.5 (or higher) without much thinking.
2.3.5 changelog says:- Add stronger checks for the configuration error of running with a writeable root directory inside a chroot(). This may bite people who carelessly turned on chroot_local_user but such is life.
Somehow it bite me not guys responsible for this update... :/ - pkasTutorHi. I got tired of depending on photos.readynas.com as a proxy for people to access the Photos 2 albums that are on my ReadyNAS. I also got tired of not having my invitations sent out. So, I wrote a perl script that resides on my ReadyNAS, that allows me to:
1) determine the URLs that provide DIRECT access to my albums; I share these URLs, instead of the photos.readynas.com-based URLs
2) optionally email invitations to people for those albums. The emails come from me, so that people can reply to me when they get the invitations.
The script is set up for anyone to use; I will continue to enhance it over time. Here's a link to the script: http://ppl.ug/jDeCfS-6akI/
The script is text (well, it is perl) so you can easily examine it to make sure that it is safe, etc. Also, if you want to read more about it, I described it in my blog: http://pkas.zxq.net
If you run the script with --help, -h or -?, it will describe what you need to do.
pkas - juan02044AspirantI've tested the script provided by "pkas" and it works. Feel free to contact him using PM.
Thanks to him I can continue using Photos II even if the service is down. - I am also using Pkas solution and it is as effective as Netgear but it works all the time !
1000 cheers to him :-) - woodenbellyAspiranthi everybody
i have been trying to get this fixed for the last 60 days , the only way netgear can get the system to function correctly is to logon to my nas do what they need to do , then i can send e-mail invites.
but if i try to go back into the photos app and send additional invites to more clients the just dissappear into a black hole.
netgear cant provide a permanent fix for this built in app that is one of the selling points for their nas range.
so i have decided to return the unit and invest my money elsewhere in the nas market. :x :x :x :x - pkasTutorFeel free to PM me if you want an approach that works well.
- mnpapabearAspirantI'm joining this post because my Photos II service is down too. I have a business need with clients who require access to this service TODAY. If there are any admins monitoring this forum, please jump on this case and work to resolve the issue ASAP! And please post an announcement to your "valued" customers with a status update. Please demonstrate some level of professionalism and concern. Thank you.
