Set port to 80 - now no access.. Case: 18926335
OK, so I have been wondering how to redirect my own domain name to the ReadyNAS box for a while and have been using a solution based on "http://[DYNDNS_ManagedByRouter]:8086/photos2" which has been working. Apart from the fact that my office blocks 8086, so I can't get access from there to show people.. I decided it made sense to change the Photos II settings so it ran on port 80 - clever, I thought, seeing as all web traffic works on 80. Photos II seemed happy with the arrangement and let me change the port but now I have a problem - I can't access the settings or albums in Photos II or even the Duo V2 dashboard..
I realise the error I have made (80 is obviously reserved for the control panel stuff) but how do I change the Photos II port back to 8086 without starting the box from scratch? (There are lots of photos already shared on it and I've been through that twice already - it's very tedious and the whole box is surprisingly hard work for someone who's worked in IT for over 10 years!) Can I change it though MySQL or by SSH or something?
Also, why on Earth would Photos II let me do such a thing?! Maybe I'll just stop using it until it actually feels like a finished, polished product :(
TIA, James

- ReadySECUREApprenticeI just grabbed a Pro2 and I will be attempting to recreate and see if there is an easy way to fix this for you.
- ShowbizAspirantQuick response, thanks, I look forward to hearing from you :)
- HERBIEOAspirantWhat about trying OS reinstall as that leaves all data intact and only resets network settings and admin password to defaults.
http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _boot_menu
Edit not sure if this will reset the port back to 8086 but worth a try as it only takes 5 minutes to do. - ReadySECUREApprentice

OS reinstall will only reset the network adapters, not the add-in information.
My lab is taking longer than expected, ran into some difficulties -- old firmware on box and such.
Upgrading it to 4.2.21 and then will proceed to work on the issue. - ReadySECUREApprenticeI did fix the issue.
On the OS partition, there exists a configuration file for the photos.
/etc/frontview/apache/addons/READYNAS_PHOTOS_II.conf
In there, I was able to modify the port number, save, and reboot the ReadyNAS. I was then able to access FrontView as well as the Photos.
If you have SSH access, modify this file and change it from 80 back to 8086. It does appear 2 times.
If you don't have access to SSH, we will need to put it into tech support mode and I'll fix it for you. Let me know via thread or PM that you've put your device into tech support mode. http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _boot_menu - ShowbizAspirantAll fixed (remotely), thanks readysecure1985, can't fault the service one bit :)
- ReadySECUREApprenticeNo problem!
Glad to help. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAs well as port 80 (HTTP) being reserved for the Dashboard so is port 443 (HTTP/S). Best to stick to the default port. If you have multiple ReadyNAS units with separate Photos II installations you wish to use then use e.g. 8087, 8088 etc. for Photos II on the additional units.
This problem of selecting a reserved port has been encountered before. I agree that it would be nice if a check was added to stop users from selecting a port reserved for the Dashboard. Having said that in the rare cases this issue is encountered it's very easy to remotely fix. - HERBIEOAspirant

Maybe something readysecure1985 can look into for later firmware releases a simple check and default it back if reserved port is chosen. - ShowbizAspirantreadysecure1985 has already passed the issue up the chain - I hope he doesn't mind me posting what he told me in PM;
"I did alert to our L3 guys about being able to change to port 80 and they'll contact whomever is in charge for that. The configuration file for the photos is different than the one than the one that shows up in frontview; the scripts look like they should have updated both."
So there we go, should be something that's addressed in a later release I guess.
He also gave me a list of ports that I should steer clear of too - I really should know better!
