Will adding second network interface with second ISP speed up WAN data transfer?

I have a ReadyNAS 2312, used primairly as a local backup destination for large video files. I have it set to sync to Dropbox (I have an unlimited business dropbox account) for an offsite backup. It's all hunky-dory. But it's slow; my ISP only provides about 30-40 mbps upload speeds.

Recently I installed a second ISP in my studio, for Internet redundancy. I use a Synology router that allows me to load balance, or even define specific IP addresses to use one ISP or the other. This allows me to leave one ISP dedicated to a constant upload from the ReadyNAS, for example, while leaving the other ISP for regular network traffic. Cool stuff.

I'm about to leave for a month, so figured this might actually be a chance for the ReadyNAS to finally catch up and get everything up to Dropbox while I'm away. Then it occurred to me that I could enable one of the additional network interfaces on the ReadyNAS, which of course gets its own IP address, and then in the Synology router, assign one interface to one ISP, and another to the other.

So the question then becomes… will the ReadyNAS actually distribute the upload/sync across both interfaces? Or will it just grab onto one and ignore the other?

Thanks for any insight!

I believe dropbox app will just pick one interface, though that depends on how the app is written.

Yes.  If the app is making one connection to the dropbox cloud, then that connection will go over one interface.  If the app doesn't select the interface explicitly, then Linux will select it - most likely picking the first one.

If the app is making multiple connections, then it might be smart enough to use both interfaces (or not).

My guess is that the app isn't that sophisticated, as most folks don't have two ISPs.
