I'm sure the fan is included in the hardware warranty.
I have 3 generations of readynas devices including 1 that is 8 years old. I've had 1 fan problem ( rattling ) and Netgear replaced the whole chassis without any quibbles.
I would try to get the 314 as mdgm suggested.
