If you are running single redundancy XRAID, then installing 2 larger drives will work. If you are running 2 TB drives today, you'd see a volume increase of 2 TB.

It is important that you upgrade your firmware to 4.2.23 first. Also, there are some expansion limits - your NAS will not expand more than 8 TiB from the initial volume size (at install or last factory reset), and it will not expand beyond 16 TiB total. As always, you should have a current backup of your NAS data before you begin.
Since there are no 4 TB drives on the HCL for the NVX, Netgear support won't help you if you run into issues.
