Replacement disks RN102 , from 1xTb to 2 x 4TB

Hy,

I have a question . I have my RN102 since long times. This NAS is simple clean, and nice to use .

I have 2 news Disks  Seagate Ironwolf Pro 7200RPM.

If a replace one NAS Disk ( 1TB ) with the new one ( 4TB ) :

 - should I format first the 4TB disk if it is not empty ?

 - if I place the new disk , Iit should copy th data form the 1TB to 4TB , isn't it ?

Regards,

  • Assuming you are using a RAID1 configuration (either via XRAID or FlexRAID), then your best path is to unformat the drive (remove all partitions), then swap it out with power applied.  In most cases, you can skip the unformatting and do a "format" within the NAS GUI, but that sometimes fails due to a partition type the NAS can't do anything with.

Note that you will not see any increase in available space until you swap out the second drive.

If you are using a JBOD or RAID0 configuration then, no, you cannot just swap out the drive.
